Hundreds Of Yazidis Found In ISIS Mass Grave, Many Buried Alive

August 10, 2014

Tyler Durden

"If the stated purpose of US intervention in the "country formerly known as Iraq", which saw the fourth consecutive US president launching military strikes in a nation now absolutely destroyed thanks to US involvement, was humanitarian (it isn't) and allegedly to "protect" the Yazidi ethnic minority members stuck on a mountain near Sinjar, then it needs some fine-tuning. The reason: as Reuters reports, Islamic State militants have slaughtered at least 500 Yazidis during their latest offensive in the north, with Iraq's human rights minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani adding that the ISIS jihadists also buried alive some of their victims, including women and children. Some 300 women were kidnapped as slaves, he added.

As a reminder, ISIS atrocities against Yazidis was the primary (if thoroughly fabricated) reason why according to the Obama, he promptly agreed to launch airstrikes against ISIS on Thursday night, leading to numerous bombing sorties in the following days."

Pope Francis: Isis violence against minorities in Iraq must be stopped

John Hooper

August 10, 2014

"Pope Francis used unusually strong language to condemn the actions of Islamists in their continuing campaign against minorities in Iraq on Sunday and called for an end to violence in the name of God. A high-ranking special Vatican envoy is due to leave for northern Iraq on Monday.

In his traditional Sunday blessing, Francis said the news from the country had left him "in dismay and disbelief". Without referring by name to the Islamic State (Isis), whose jihadists are largely responsible for the persecution, the pope deplored reports of "thousands of people, including many Christians, driven from their homes in a brutal manner; children dying of thirst and hunger in their flight; women kidnapped; people massacred; [and] violence of every kind."

Thousands of Yazidis rescued, Iraqi Human Rights Ministry spokesman says

By Ashley Fantz, Barbara Starr and Chelsea J. Carter, CNN

August 10, 2014

"(CNN) -- The U.S. military carried out a new series of airstrikes Sunday against ISIS targets in Iraq, while some 20,000 Yazidi Iraqis who had been trapped on Mount Sinjar were rescued and taken to the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights spokesman Kamil Amin told CNN that Kurdish forces were able to break the siege by ISIS and help thousands of stranded Yazidis board trucks, which drove them to the Syrian border town of Hasaka near Iraq. They were then driven north along the Syrian-Iraqi border to Dohuk, a region in northern Iraq's Kurdish region.

In Dohuk, the Kurdish government helped the refugees find shelter, Amin said."

Ukraine: Insurgents Disrupt Medical Services

August 5, 2014

Forces Should Respect Special Protection Requirements

"(Berlin) – Insurgent forces in eastern Ukraine have threatened medical staff, stolen and destroyed medical equipment and hospital furniture, and compromised the ability of civilian patients to receive treatment, Human Rights Watch said today. Insurgent forces have also expropriated ambulances and used them to transport active fighters.

Such acts are strictly prohibited under the laws of war, which afford special protections to medical units and personnel as well as to the wounded and sick, Human Rights Watch said."

Ukraine 'may cut Russia energy for Europe'

August 10, 2014

"Ukraine has warned it might cut Russian oil and gas flows to Europe and ban Russian airlines from crossing its airspace, as Moscow criticised the country for suspending a ceasefire at the crash site of MH17.

The measures are part of a sanctions bill targeting Russia that will be submitted to parliament, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said in Kiev.

Yatsenyuk explained it could include complete or partial bans on transit of all manner of resources, including energy resources and overflights.

Ukraine is the key country for the transport of Russian oil and gas to Europe.

Previous energy disputes have resulted in supply cuts for European consumers.

Russia in June halted its gas deliveries to Ukraine because of a payment dispute.

Yatsenyuk said the Ukrainian parliament was expected to vote on the bill on Tuesday."

Russia urges quickest aid delivery to east Ukraine - Lavrov

August 10, 2014

Lavrov said Russia was taking efforts to agree with Ukraine, the ICRC and UN on humanitarian aid deliveries

"SOCHI, August 10 /ITAR-TASS/. Russia hopes that the issue of relief aid delivery to eastern Ukraine will be resolved soon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday, adding that the problem was under control of President Vladimir Putin.

“We think this is a pressing issue that admits of no delay. This issue is under control of the Russian president,” Lavrov said. “We hope we will be able to agree relief aid deliveries to those who need them as soon as possible.”

Lavrov said Russia was taking efforts to agree with Ukraine, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations on humanitarian aid deliveries.

“Now, our top priority task is to agree on urgent humanitarian aid to the Lugansk and Donetsk regions with the Ukrainian side, with the International Committee of the Red Cross and with international humanitarian organizations within the United Nations system,” he told journalists."

Ukraine Threatens Transnistria

August 10, 2014

Vladislav GULEVICH

"The ongoing war in Donbass is not enough for the Ukrainian government. They start to target (or to be more exact – they are made do so) the neighbors. Dmytro Tymchuk, a blogger  singing to the junta’s tune, points his finger at the territory to be destabilized next - the  TransnistrianMoldovan Republic (Transnistria, also called Trans-Dniestr or Transdniestria). According to him, Russia uses this territory for aggression against Ukraine. He believes the Republic is a springboard for attacking his country. So in future Ukraine should do its best to help Moldova restore its control over it.

Long before Euromaidan the ultra-nationalists from Svoboda Party had threaten to ukranize Transnistria and even had sent their emissaries there.  In February, Dmitry Yarosh, the leader of the far-right Right Sector organization, addressed the Ukrainians who make up 30 percent of Transnistrian population and promised to change their status in the Republic. In May-June Tymchuk was one of those who used Internet to spread around stories about “Transnistrian saboteurs” who coordinated (!) the burning of civilians in the Odessa Trade Unions House. A bit later Kiev started to talk about the threat of invasion from Transnistria."

West warns Russia against 'illegal' invasion of Ukraine

By Anna Malpas with Sim Sim Wissgott in Kiev

August 9, 2014

"Donetsk (Ukraine) (AFP) - The West warned Russia on Saturday that any attempt to enter Ukraine on "humanitarian" grounds would be considered an "illegal" invasion after Kiev claimed Russian troops had tried to cross the border in the guise of aid workers.

Moscow denied the claim, saying "Russian troops made no attempt to penetrate" Ukraine, where pro-Russian rebels in the east admitted that their stronghold Donetsk had been surrounded by Kiev's troops.

"We have difficulty understanding what the Ukrainians are talking about," Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, told the Interfax news agency."

Israel, Palestinians launch new three-day truce

By Nidal al-Mughrabi and Allyn Fisher-Ilan

August 10, 2014

"GAZA/JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel and the Palestinians held their fire early on Monday at the start of a new 72-hour ceasefire proposed by Egypt that took effect at 2100 GMT.

There were no immediate reports of breaches of the ceasefire although Hamas claimed it fired rockets as far as the Tel Aviv area for the first time since a previous truce expired on Friday, just minutes before the new truce took hold.

The Israeli military had no comment but Israeli media said a rocket exploded in an open area in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area and at least two other rockets were intercepted in a town just south of that region.

A senior Israeli government official said on Sunday Israeli negotiators would return to Cairo to resume indirect talks with the Palestinians, if the truce held, also confirming the Jewish state had accepted Egypt's proposal for the new truce.

The Israeli team had flown home on Friday when the sides failed to reach a deal to prolong a previous three-day truce, and hostilities in the month-old conflict resumed.

A Hamas official said Palestinian factions had accepted Egypt's call and that the Cairo talks would continue. Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said that these new negotiations would be "the last chance" for a deal.

Egypt's Foreign Ministry urged "both sides to exploit this truce to resume indirect negotiations immediately and work towards a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire agreement".

The new truce won the praise of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon who, in a statement, urged both sides to "avoid any steps which would lead to a return to violence."

I'm sorry breezy but a truce never holds.

I guess the whole idea of a truce is to resume fighting on a later date after the "martyrs" and the "innocent civilian casualties" have been taken care of. But no matter. It seems there's a war on history going on - and the Khazars are playing a key role at the moment in both the Levan(t) and former Khazaria.

The Cradle of Civilization (if you believe that), and The Holy Land (if you believe that also) have been ravaged continuously since the dawn of time but in particular since the fall of the Ottoman Empire. Apparently as a collateral to skirmishes in the past, but particularly since Napoleons trip to Egypt in the late 1700's, systematic deconstruction of any kind of heritage have been in fashion all through Europe and America, or anywhere the white man set down his burden.

Here, there and everywhere indigenous peoples have been converted and taught new languages and faiths and entire social paradigms in a continuous push towards empire since before the Sumerians - who's cultural hallmarks interestingly became absorbed into the Babylonian Empire that later succumbed to a Kassite takeover, zealously reinforcing babylonian culture?!

The Kassites - or Khazars - were later returned to the mountains from which they came only to reappear in the annals of history time and time again. And now they are back in both Khazaria and the Levant while their henchmen are occupied occupying Babylon - the Gate of the Gods, and axis of the World (unless you're from Nineveh).

These guys have been at it for over 5.000 years - but let's have a truce >:D

Thank you for maintaining these threads, breezy, collecting and connecting the dots. Your bag of dots must be really heavy :kiss3:

When the former USSR broke up in '92, there were several large stores of weapons in Moldova, including I think, 2 or 3 in the Transnistria area.  It was known that quite a few nuclear weapons were stored there.

After Smirnov took over the control of the Transnistria area and broke away from Moldova, he stopped any removal of the nuclear warheads by Russia, but I believe he did allow their servicing.

I am wondering if the current Kiev controllers are thinking they can get their hands on these weapons?

Meet Haider al-Abadi, the man named as Iraq's new prime minister
August 12, 2014

Iraq's president has named Haider al-Abadi as the country's new prime minister, an appointment that came amid speculation that the embattled incumbent, Nouri al-Maliki, would cling onto power even after his country had dissolved into chaos and the United States made it clear that it would not support him as leader anymore.

But who is Abadi? Born in Baghdad in 1952, Abadi was educated at the University of Baghdad and later received a doctorate from the University of Manchester in Britain. He lived in Britain for many years after his family was targeted by Saddam Hussein's Baathist regime. Trained as an electrical engineer, he entered politics after the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. He became minister of communications in the Iraqi Governing Council in September 2003, then was a key adviser to Prime Minister Maliki in Iraq's first post-invasion elected government. Just weeks ago, he was elected as Deputy Speaker of Parliament, and he has been considered a contender for prime minister in the last two elections.

Power struggle on Baghdad streets as Maliki replaced but refuses to go

By Michael Georgy and Ahmed Rasheed

August 11, 2014

"(Reuters) - Iraq's president named a new prime minister to end Nuri al-Maliki's eight-year rule on Monday, but the veteran leader refused to go after deploying militias and special forces on the streets, creating a dangerous political showdown in Baghdad.

Washington, which helped install Maliki following its 2003 invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein, congratulated Haidar al-Abadi, a former Maliki lieutenant who was named by President Fouad Masoum to replace him.

Maliki said in a televised speech the president's decision to name a replacement for him was a "dangerous violation" of the constitution and, flanked by political allies, he vowed "we will fix the mistake."

Maliki's son-in-law, Hussein al-Maliki, called the move "illegal" and said it would be overturned in court. "We will not stay silent," he said."

Is Anyone In Control? The Iraq "Post Coup" Confusion Deepens

August 11, 2014

Tyler Durden

"While the US is alternating between bombing the north of Iraq, and occasionally paradropping MREs and jugs of water to keep up the "noble" facade of intervention, it is very much unclear if Iraq currently has a government and in fact, who is in charge. As reported yesterday, current PM al-Maliki, seemingly unhappy with relinquishing power when a new Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi was chosen, decided to conduct what many described as a military coup and encircled the residence of the president. Since then things have gotten quite confusing.

As Reuters summarizes, "Iraq's president named a new prime minister to replace Nuri al-Maliki on Monday, urging him to form a broad government that can stem communal bloodshed, but it was unclear whether Maliki would bow to U.S. and Iranian pressure to step aside.  A Shi'ite Muslim blamed by erstwhile allies in Washington and Tehran as well as Baghdad for driving the alienated Sunni minority into revolt, Maliki deployed loyal militias and special forces in the capital on Monday after making a defiant speech accusing the head of state of abusing the constitution.

There was no immediate reaction from Maliki to the naming of Haider al-Abadi as prime minister. However, Maliki's son-in-law, a close political ally, told Reuters that he would seek to overturn the nomination in the courts.

President Fouad Masoum asked Abadi, a leader of Maliki's Islamic Dawa Party, to lead an administration that can win the support of a parliament elected in April. In remarks broadcast on television, Masoum, an ethnic Kurd, urged him to "form a broader-based government" over the next month."

Heavy Russian Military Equipment Is Joining The 'Aid' Convoy To Eastern Ukraine

August 14, 2014

Jeremy Bender

"Vladimir Putin's government is sending a convoy of unmarked white trucks to Ukraine, and the supposed humanitarian mission is now being accompanied by heavy offensive Russian military equipment.

The fleet of more than 262 vehicles, including about 200 trucks carrying aid, has stopped 15 miles from the border of Ukraine's rebel-held eastern region of Luhansk.

The trucks of supplies have been joined by helicopters, surface-to-air missile systems, and possible anti-aircraft weapons systems."

Russian aid convoy travels toward Ukraine; death toll from violence continues to rise
August 14, 2014

"The aid convoy had been temporarily halted as both sides argued about where the aid should be delivered. At least 41 people were killed in the violence Thursday — a day after the UN announced that the death toll had doubled to more than 2,000 in just two weeks.  <<<<2,000 people have died in just two weeks!!

VORONEZH, Russia — A large Russian aid convoy resumed its journey toward Ukraine Thursday, taking a road leading directly toward a border crossing controlled by pro-Russian rebels in the Luhansk region.

The convoy of more than 200 vehicles had been parked at a military depot in the southern Russian city of Voronezh since late Tuesday amid disagreement over how and where the aid could be delivered to Ukraine, where government troops are battling pro-Russia separatists.

The convoy comes during an especially violent few weeks in Ukraine. On Wednesday the U.N.'s human rights office said the death toll has doubled to more than 2,000 in just two weeks, up from 1,129 on July 26. At 41 killed and 143 were reported wounded on Thursday alone.

On Thursday the white trucks, some flying the red flag of Moscow city and accompanied by green military vehicles, traveled down a winding highway through sunflower fields and rolling green hills. They turned off that road near the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, driving west toward the Ukraine border crossing of Izvaryne, which is currently under rebel control.

By taking such a route, Russian appeared to be intent on not abiding by a tentative agreement to deliver aid to a government-controlled border checkpoint in the Kharkiv region, where it could more easily be inspected by Ukraine and the Red Cross. Moscow has insisted it coordinated the dispatch of the goods, which it says range from baby food and canned meat to portable generators and sleeping bags, with the international Red Cross."

Ukraine-bound Russian convoy stuck amid doubts over route

August 13, 2014

"VORONEZH, Russia –  Hundreds of Russian trucks carrying aid intended for rebel-held eastern Ukraine remained parked Wednesday in the southern city of Voronezh as doubts grew over the convoy's final route.

The white-tarped vehicles lay idle at a military base in Voronezh after driving there from the outskirts of Moscow the day before.

Ukraine and Russia have tentatively agreed that the aid will be delivered to a government-controlled crossing in Ukraine's Kharkiv province, which hasn't been touched by the months of fighting that have wracked neighboring regions. Still, it remained unclear Wednesday whether the convoy would take that route.

Amid the tensions, Russian President Vladimir Putin traveled to Crimea, a Black Sea peninsula that Russia seized from Ukraine in March, where he was to chair a session of his Security Council later Wednesday. A meeting with Putin's entire Cabinet and most Russian lawmakers was scheduled for Thursday."

My guess is if the aid is delivered, that will constitute a win for Putin. If the aid-convoy is denied entry Ukraine will look bad, constituting a win for Putin. If the convoy gets shelled or otherwise attacked Ukraine will most like look bad, and that will also be a win for Putin - just as it would somehow justify Russian military intervention by Western design. The shelling of aid-convoys in former Yugoslavia among other things brought in NATO bombers over Serbia. I'm sure Russia would love to help the diaspora in Ukraine.

Putin: "Russia shouldn't isolate itself"

“There continue to be absurd claims that the humanitarian-aid convoy for the civilian population in southeast Ukraine could be used as a pretext for a Russian ‘armed invasion’ into a neighboring state,” the Foreign Ministry said on its website.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-08-13/ukraine-will-accept-russian-aid-if-red-cross-hands-it-out.html If my doublespeak translator is working properly, I would hazard the guess that that's what it is... a pretext for invasion.

http://nyti.ms/1lS2MjJ

At a morning session of Parliament, Oleh Lyashko, a nationalist politician who has helped form several paramilitary battalions, called for Ukraine to turn back the convoy and seal the border.

“How can you take humanitarian aid from a country that destroys our country?” Mr. Lyashko said. “Stop this nonsense.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/13/world/europe/russian-convoy-leaves-moscow-for-ukraine-bearing-aid.html?_r=0

“Given that Ukraine has allowed international humanitarian groups to deliver aid within its territory, there is no logical reason why Russia should seek to deliver it,” US Ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power, told a Security Council meeting on Ukraine yesterday.

“Therefore, any further unilateral intervention by Russia into Ukrainian territory, including one under the guise of providing humanitarian aid, would be completely unacceptable and deeply alarming. And it would be viewed as an invasion of Ukraine,”

Ukraine Says It Destroyed Part of Armed Convoy From Russia

Ukraine said its troops attacked and partially destroyed a column of armed vehicles that had crossed the border from Russian territory, while Russia said it was concerned about an attack on another convoy carrying aid.

Ukrainian government troops engaged the vehicles that had arrived overnight through a rebel-held section of the border, Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for the country’s military, told reporters in Kiev today. Ukrainian soldiers continue to come under shelling, including rounds fired from Russia, he said.

The government in Kiev has for months said that separatist rebels in its easternmost regions are receiving support from Russia, which backs them with artillery fire. Russia has repeatedly denied any involvement in the Ukrainian unrest. The Foreign Ministry in Moscow said it was concerned about potential attempts to disrupt the humanitarian convoy and repeated a call for a cease-fire to allow for aid delivery.

Life  enables creation and as a consequence reality exists ,

life expands reality,

entropy contracts reality,

entropy limits  growth, consumes life.

It all occurs via a supply and demand rule ...

Life places demand upon the construct which in turn generates the supply needed to satisfy the demands of life, hence more life more expansion of reality. Oh in this instance Life is not the same as living , living is the effect of supply within a construct of time relative to each INSTANCE  of demand. So once Life moves on and Living ceases the reality constructed for living ceases to exist here.

=========================================================

Just my perspective on it.... So constricting life or pushing life out of this reality is the purpose of WAR a construct of entropy created by the negative side of this existence so to speak IMO

The choice is YOURS

Ukraine agrees to Russian aid convoy

August 17, 2014

"Kiev and Moscow have reached agreement on the passage of a Russian aid convoy into eastern Ukraine, according to the Red Cross.Ukraine's government had been concerned the convoy of about 280 white trucks could be a 'Trojan horse', allowing Russia to set up a permanent presence in rebel-held territory. But Russia 'guaranteed' the US that no military personnel were in the vehicles, which have been stuck near the border for the past few days.Moscow says the trucks are carrying water, food and medicine for people displaced by fighting in eastern Ukraine.Red Cross officials - who have been examining the contents of the lorries - said they need security guarantees from both sides before the convoy can start moving across the border. Permission to Steal Everything

http://cluborlov.blogspot.com.au/2014/08/permission-to-steal-everything.html

Aug. 13, 2014

There is a convoy of 280 gleaming white trucks moving through Russia toward Ukraine loaded with humanitarian aid for the populations of Donetsk and Lugansk. This isn't much, considering that well over a million people have been cut off from food, water, electricity and (soon) heat because of indiscriminate artillery bombardment by the Ukrainian military. But it's a start. But it seems like a rocky start; first, NATO's mouthpiece Rasmussen tries to characterize this humanitarian mission as a clandestine invasion. Then the Ukrainians start imposing various conditions. Let's consider these separately.

When was the last time Russia, or, for that matter, USSR, mount a clandestine invasion? If you said “Crimea,” then you need to understand that

1. Russian troops have been in Crimea continuously for the past 231 years;

2. they were there under an international treaty; and

3. their troop levels never exceeded the levels this treaty stipulates.

If Russia wanted to invade Ukraine, it simply would. The Ukrainian troops would surrender or run away, but then what? Nobody has an answer to that question, not even the Russians. Aid—yes, invasion—no thanks. The policy of letting Ukraine “stew in its own juices until the meat falls off the bone” (as I put it back in mid-March) is working quite well, with the added bonus that the EU and the US are now at each others' throats over their self-imposed sanctions. But it will take time, and this means that the population of Novorossiya, where Donetsk and Lugansk are located, and which ended up as part of Ukraine thanks to Lenin, has to be fed and heated through the next winter. Hence the humanitarian mission, which will be, if all goes well, the first of many.

The various Ukrainian conditions have to do with something quite different than countering the threat of a clandestine invasion. First they asked that the convoy pass through Kharkov instead of rolling straight toward Donetsk, making for a big detour. Then they demanded that the goods be offloaded at the border and loaded onto Ukrainian trucks, but they couldn't come up with enough trucks. Then they demanded that the Russian trucks cary Ukrainian license plates and that each truck carry a Ukrainian representative. Next it will be something else.

You may be confused at what might be behind all of these fairly ridiculous conditions and stalling tactics, so let me explain. The Ukrainians are doing their best to figure out how they can steal the goods from the convoy. Until they can find a way to do that, nothing will move, because nothing ever moves in Ukraine until everybody gets their piece of the action. During their two-decade-plus experiment with Western-style “freedom and democracy,” by which I mean oligarchy and prostitution, Ukraine has bred a subspecies of survivors adept at answering just one question: “Where's my piece of it?”

Take Arseny Yatsenyuk, the US State Department-assigned Ukrainian Prime Minister. He recently announced that Ukraine was out of money, unable even to pay its soldiers (this, by the way, is disingenuous, because Ukraine hasn't been paying or feeding its soldiers) and that therefore he is resigning. Ukraine got a couple billion dollars from Russia as a door prize for joining Moscow's Customs Union, under President Yanukovich, who was subsequently overthrown. Where's that money? Om-nom-nom, burp! Then, after the coup, the West gave Ukraine some loan guarantees and a few additional billions. Om-nom-nom, burp! So, with nothing left to steal, Yatsenyuk announces his resignation and heads for the airport, on his way to a warm sunny place where he can squander his ill-gotten funds on hookers and blow. His CIA minders had to retrieve him from the airport and frog-march him back to his office. He is not allowed to resign. He can't live the American Dream just yet—not until some brainless stooge gets to mutter the words “mission accomplished” and the CIA operatives head home, at which point the Ukrainians go back to trying to turn tricks at the Kremlin.

With regard to the convoy, getting the cargo off-loaded and put on Ukrainian trucks would have made stealing it easy, but that couldn't happen due to lack of trucks. (Remember, Ukrainian officials have been selling off government property and pocketing the proceeds for two decades now, so that very little is now left.) Forcing the trucks to carry Ukrainian license plates is a small concession, since these probably require a bribe (nothing happens there without a bribe) but perhaps they are looking for opportunities to waylay a few of these trucks and break them up for spare parts. Getting a Ukrainian representative on board each truck is another small concession: he will need to be fed, pacified with vodka and given walking-around money. But the main problem—how to steal a substantial portion, ideally all, of the humanitarian aid going to Novorossiya—remains unsolved, and until it is solved there will be deadlock. This makes it difficult to cooperate with Ukrainian officials, who don't seem to have any trace of human values left and function on a strictly biological level, but the Russians are trying.

How does a country sink to this level of degeneracy in just a couple of decades? Recently, Prof. Savelyev, who is an expert on, among other things, human evolution, ventured to explain. Human evolution, he said in an interview, has been primarily the evolution of the brain. In the short time that Homo Sapiens Sapiens has been in existence, its brain size increased dramatically. Although it is possible to declare that intelligence is of direct survival value, there is a more reasoned explanation for the pressure to increase brain size.

Most of the size gains have been in the prefrontal cortex—a part of the brain that does not have a strictly defined function but is implicated in modulating social behavior. Indeed, people with a lobotomized prefrontal cortex go on to function more or less normally (but do sometimes exhibit a startling lack of ethical or moral sense). But a lobotomy is by no means necessary to produce individuals with stunted morals and ethics: there is a critical learning period for developing a conception of the common good, the ability to cooperate with others in absence of selfish motivations, and a morality not directly grounded in biological self-interest. A social environment such as that which has prevailed in Ukraine during its period of “independence,” during which theft and prostitution were prized above all, is not conducive to developing any of these. A case can be made that such an environment exerts the opposite evolutionary pressure: if all desirable women are prostitutes and the only economic opportunities involve theft, then biological survival requires theft. This makes a large prefrontal cortex redundant, and those who have a smaller one perhaps make more efficient criminals. The result is a population dominated by people free of any human values, who pursue strictly biological goals of resource accumulation and reproduction.

My book The Five Stages of Collapse includes an extensive case study devoted to the Ik, a small tribe of hunter-gatherers in northern Uganda, which, when they were observed by the anthropologist Colin Turnbull in the 1970s, exhibited just such a level of cultural degeneracy. They had reached the fifth stage of collapse: cultural collapse. Turnbull's prescription was to destroy them as a people by breaking up their society and resettling them. Prof. Savelyev has something eerily similar to say: human evolution advances through appalling acts of violence in which the males of culturally degenerate populations, which have lost their human values and conceptions of the common good, are destroyed outright. History is replete with examples of such exterminations (among numerous other ones), and although we may regard them with horror, others may regard them with pride. For instance, Prof. Savelyev points out, the French are still quite proud of their revolutionary invention, the guilliotine. To them it was a civilized, efficient way to neatly solve the problem—by neatly slicing off the heads that contained the faulty circuitry.

According to Savelyev, the Ukrainian flag shouldn't be a field of sunflowers under a blue sky. A sausage impaled on a fork would be much more appropriate. After all, that is what they are fighting for. There is no point in shaming them, for stealing or for lying, for shame requires one of those prefrontal cortex functions: a conscience. To them, telling the truth is a surprising new requirement, they didn't sign up for it, and they don't understand why it's necessary. All they have to do is lie well: “Donetsk is surrounded! We are about to prevail!” they tell you. Sure they are. Ask the rebels where they are going, and they will tell you matter-of-factly: “We are going all the way to Kiev.” Perhaps the French can send an aid convoy of their own, to Kiev, to coincide with the rebels' arrival. It could include a few guilliotines. In the meantime, I hope that Uncle Sam is having lots of fun playing with his Ukrainian mail order bride; after all, they have plenty in common.

Pummeling human perception at this level be it the emotional energy of the violence directed at the heart or the resulting logical conclusion for a rational argument to go to war are all but Torjans sent in to hijack your freewill.

That is what they require to keep things rolling along as they always were.

With thousands now dead, Ukraine refugees say aid is welcome but peace is better

August 22, 2014

 Michael Birnbaum

"SHCHASTYA, Ukraine – Zhanna Sologub doesn’t know if the rocket that struck the courtyard of her house this month was fired by pro-Russian rebels or Ukrainian government forces.

What she does know, she says, is that the biggest humanitarian gesture either side could make right now is to stop the fighting.

Amid intensifying battles Thursday for control of key cities in eastern Ukraine, Ukraine and Russia are clashing over the delivery of food, medicine and other supplies to areas hit by the conflict. But aid, some residents say, is not as critical as peace.

“People are able to survive even without electricity and water,” Sologub said as she lay bandaged in a hospital in this government-held village eight miles from Luhansk, a Ukrainian city close to the Russian border that has seen some of the worst combat of the four-month conflict. “But you can’t prepare yourself for bombing.”

Luhansk has been without electricity or water for 20 days, city officials say. But Sologub and her husband were determined to tough it out in the house they built there with their own hands. The rocket attack fractured one of Sologub’s legs and severely wounded a foot. Her husband suffered a spinal injury."

Pressure Mounts to Expand Airstrikes Against ISIS in Iraq
August 21, 2014

"Pressure is building on President Barack Obama and within the Pentagon to intensify airstrikes against Islamic extremist targets in Iraq following the beheading of American journalist James Foley.

The Military Times is reporting that senior officers at Central Command, which controls military operations in the Middle East, have called on the Pentagon to expand the list of possible target sites, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The expanded list does not necessarily imply that the U.S. military would be able to bomb more Islamic State (ISIS) positions right away, but it would give commanders in the region more options, an official told Military Times.

Meanwhile, members of Congress, appearing on Newsmax TV, have suggested Congress would back a more aggressive strategy in dealing with the Islamic State.

Rep. Ted Poe, a Texas Republican, told Newsmax TV's "America's Forum" on Wednesday that the murder of Foley, which was revealed online in a horrifying video from the Islamic State, should encourage Congress to take more action."

Behind the Gaza ceasefire efforts: Israel and Hamas talk potential peace

August 22, 2014

James Dorsey

"Wars inevitably spark change. That is no truer than in the war in Gaza no matter what Hamas and Israel say. The signs of changing attitudes of Israel and Hamas towards one another go significantly beyond the fact that the two sworn enemies who refuse to recognize one another are negotiating even if only indirectly. They also go beyond the fact that the road to the Cairo talks was paved in part on indirect negotiations between Hamas and the United States, which like Israel has declared Hamas a terrorist organization. While some European officials have been urging Israel to negotiate directly with Hamas.

Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu announced changed Israeli attitudes towards Hamas when he defined Israel's goal in the Gaza war as the weakening of Hamas military capability, if not the demilitarization of the group, rather than his long standing objective of total destruction of the organisation. While Israel seemed to be indiscriminate in its risking of civilian casualties during the war, Hamas' senior leadership in the Strip has emerged from the fighting unscathed.

The negotiations despite their cyclical breakdowns do not only acknowledge Hamas as a key player in any long lasting arrangement with Israel but also constitute a recognition of the fact that the Islamist group looks a lot better than other militant Palestinian groups in Gaza such as Islamic Jihad, which has often played the role of an agent provocateur trying to force conflict in an environment in which both Hamas and Israel would have wanted to avoid military confrontation. Even if Hamas does not comprise the moderate Palestinians that Israel and its western backers prefer to deal with, it looks better than the Islamic State which occupies significant chunks of Syria and Iraq."

Israel kills 3 Hamas military commanders in Gaza

August 21, 2014

By KARIN LAUB and IAN DEITCH

"GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israel stepped up its campaign against Gaza's ruling Hamas on Thursday, killing three of the group's senior military commanders in an airstrike that pulverized a four-story home, the second such attack targeting top leaders in two days.

The pinpoint pre-dawn attack on Hamas' inner sanctum was launched minutes after the men emerged from tunnel hideouts, a security official said — displaying the long reach of Israel's intelligence services.

The killing of the commanders, who played a key role in expanding Hamas' military capabilities in recent years, was bound to lower morale in the secretive group, but might not necessarily diminish its ability to fire rockets at Israel.

Thursday's strike in the southern Gaza town of Rafah, coupled with a Cabinet decision to call up 10,000 more reserve soldiers, signaled an escalation in the Israel-Hamas war after Egyptian cease-fire efforts collapsed this week.

Since July 8, fighting has claimed more than 2,000 Palestinian lives, most of them civilians, according to Palestinian officials and the U.N., and entire neighborhoods of Gaza have been destroyed. Sixty-four Israeli soldiers, two Israeli civilians and a guest worker also have been killed."

U.S. now officially irrelevant: Egypt and UAE bomb Libya without informing Obama
August 27, 2014

Allen West

"Once upon a time the global standing of the United States was respected, regarded and was credible. Of course, Barack Hussein Obama said he would restore America’s reputation and felt the George W. Bush administration had severely damaged our position. What Obama really meant was having more countries “like” America, as if our nation were a Facebook page — which amounts to nothing in a world of despots, dictators, theocrats and autocrats. Furthermore, it means your allies become confused and your enemies become emboldened — your trustworthiness plummets as your word means nothing.

And so against that backdrop we learn Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) took action against Islamist forces in Libya and thought nothing of informing the United States.

As reported by The Guardian in the UK, “US officials claim the United Arab Emirates and Egypt were behind several air strikes on Islamist militias in Libya last week, in what would be an escalation of a regional power-play between Islamists and opposing governments across the Middle East. UAE pilots flying out of Egyptian airbases allegedly twice targeted Islamist fighters vying for control of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, last week, US officials claimed to the New York Times and later to the AFP news agency. Speaking to the Guardian, a US official confirmed the reports were plausible. The air strikes failed to stop Islamist militias from capturing Tripoli later in the week and announcing a new breakaway regime, forcing Libya’s elected government to flee to the eastern city of Tobruk.”

ISIS takes U.S. woman hostage; time to stop giving the enemy propaganda tools
August 29, 2014

"Remember the early days of Operation Iraqi Freedom when a young female American soldier named Jessica Lynch was taken prisoner? It brought s chilling reality to the new battlefield of the 21st century — there were no frontlines, the battle lines existed everywhere. Now, we realize the enemy who has declared war against us does not operate under the Roberts Rules for Order or even the established Law of Warfare. We know ISIS currently holds an American, Stephen Sotloff, whose mother just yesterday made an emotional plea for his safety and his life.

Now, as reported by CNS News, we learn “The Islamic State militant group is holding hostage a young American woman who was doing humanitarian aid work in Syria, a family representative said Tuesday. The 26-year-old woman is the third American known to have been kidnapped by the militant group. The Islamic State group recently threatened to kill American hostages to avenge the airstrikes in Iraq against militants advancing on Mount Sinjar and the Kurdish capital of Irbil.”

According to ABC News, she was kidnapped a year ago and he terror group is demanding $6.6 million and the release of U.S. prisoners for the life of the young woman, whom a representative for the family requested not be identified."

'Russian Invasion' of Ukraine Prompts UN Emergency Meeting

August 28, 2014

"Ukraine’s president today declared that a "Russian invasion" of his country was underway and the United Nations' Security Council called an emergency session to discuss the latest crisis involving allegations of Russia's overt support for Ukrainian rebels.

Rebel forces have also opened up a new front in the conflict in southern Ukraine. Heavy fighting was reported in the southeast of Ukraine near the town of Novoazovsk.

The UN Security Council met today and expressed outrage, although it said it couldn't verify the reports.

Russian U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin offered a spirited defense, saying Kiev "is waging war against its own people."

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said today, "It’s clear that Russia has not only stepped up its presence in eastern Ukraine and intervened directly with combat forces, armored vehicles, artillery and surface-to-air systems." But she declined to call Russia's actions an invasion and said there were no plans for additional sanctions on Russia.

“There are several different channels, all of which the United States is engaged with, that are having discussions about what the options are,” Psaki said."

Pakistan’s Sharif clings to power as protesters step up assault

Shaiq Hussain and Tim Craig

September 1, 2014

"ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was clinging to power Monday as protesters stepped up their assault on government buildings while the capital was gripped with fear and confusion about whether the country’s powerful military will step in to defuse the tension.

As the demonstrations calling for the prime minister’s resignation enter their third week, Sharif is trying to navigate Pakistan’s worst political crisis in more than a decade. With the violence increasing, what started as a routine demonstration has morphed into concerns that the government of a nuclear-armed country could collapse."

Israel proposes taking more West Bank land for Jewish settlers

August 31, 2014

William Booth and Ruth Eglash

"JERUSALEM — The Israeli government announced Sunday that it would appropriate almost 1,000 acres of land in the West Bank that could be used to build homes for Jewish settlers.

The Israeli group Peace Now, which opposes expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, called it the largest land appropriation in 30 years.

The Civil Administration, the Israeli military authority responsible for implementing government policy in the West Bank, said the decision was based on the “instructions of the political leadership” after Operation Brother’s Keeper, the security sweep in June that followed the killing of three Israeli teens abducted in the area.

In recent weeks, leaders of the Islamist militant movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip and is branded a terrorist organization by Israel and the United States, have indicated that their operatives were behind the kidnapping.

On Sunday, Israel formally began the process of converting the 1,000 acres into “state land.” The area lies west of Bethlehem in a section of the West Bank that Israelis call Gush Etzion, a cluster of nine Israeli settlements."

As battle lines shift in Iraq, Sunnis who welcomed the Islamic State fear retribution

 Abigail Hauslohner and Erin Cunningham

September 1, 2014

"BAGHDAD — A day after breaking through a siege by Islamic State militants on the Shiite town of Amerli, Iraqi forces and pro-government militias on Monday pushed their way into nearby villages they accuse of helping to enforce the months-long blockade.

The arrival of the Shiite-dominated armed groups in neighboring Sunni towns raised fears that Sunnis could be targeted in revenge killings.

Sectarian bloodshed has been on the rise since Islamic State militants rampaged across northern Iraq in June, targeting Shiites and minority groups and reinvigorating the country’s violent Shiite militias.

The Sunni jihadist group had surrounded Amerli, a poor Shiite farming hamlet, and had cut off access to food, water, and electricity for two months.

The breakthrough on Sunday came as fighters from Iraq’s various military and paramilitary forces fought their way into the town, with the help of U.S. airstrikes on Islamic State targets in the area."

Russia calls for cease-fire with rebels, but Ukraine vows to keep up the fight

 Karoun Demirjian

September 1, 2014

"MOSCOW — Russian officials pressed Ukraine on Monday to declare a cease-fire with separatists, but Ukrainians say they are locked in a war not just against the rebels but also against Russia — on behalf of Europe.

“A great war has come, the likes of which Europe has not seen since the Second World War,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Heletey said on his Facebook page Monday, adding that the fight must go on to “show that Ukrainians are not going to give up.”

Lost territory, trapped soldiers and increasing reports of Russian tanks and troops operating in eastern Ukraine have changed the course of events in the past few days. Newly emboldened separatist forces are bearing down on strategic targets, such as the port city of Mariupol — which the Ukrainian military maintains it can defend — and the airport in Luhansk, where troops retreated in the face of a rebel onslaught Monday."

Forty Filipino peacekeepers escape Syrian rebels
September 2, 2014

"UNDER the cover of darkness, 40 Filipino peacekeepers escaped their besieged outpost in the Golan Heights after a seven-hour gunbattle with Syrian rebels, Philippine officials said Sunday. Al-Qaeda-linked insurgents still hold captive 45 Fijian troops.

The getaway, combined with the departure of another entrapped group of Filipino troops, marked a major step forward in a crisis that erupted on Thursday when Syrian rebels began targeting the peacekeeping forces.

The United Nations Security Council has condemned the assaults on the international troops monitoring the Syrian-Israeli frontier, and has demanded the unconditional release of those still in captivity."

The demilitarized zone in the Golan Heights was established in the months after the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. The zone, as well as the crossing, is monitored by more than 1,200 UN peacekeepers from six countries. No other military forces are allowed in the area.

The UN, which condemned the move and demanded the peacekeepers’ release said members of other “nonstate armed groups” were also involved in the detention."

ISIS suicide bomber captured in Iraq, says terror group filled with foreigners

September 2, 2014

"AS a suicide bomber lay in a hospital bed in Iraq he gave a rare, but limited, insight into the feared terror group known as the Islamic State (IS).

Horr Jaffer, 23, from Chechnya, was recruited by IS after his family were killed in Syria.

Sky News was the first to get access to the young man who is now being held prisoner in a Kurdish hospital.

He had been attempting to destroy a Kurd checkpoint by driving a bomb-laden car into their midst.

Four people died and many others were injured, but he was captured attempting to escape after the bomb only partly exploded.

He admitted he knew nothing, not even what country he was in.

“They didn’t tell me anything about what I was doing or where I was. I just had to press the button.”

“I want to be a martyr. I decided after they killed my family,” he told Sky News.

He claimed that foreign fighters from all over the world are coming in droves to Syria to fight with IS.

“There are nations from all over the world there. There is British amongst them. They are from Asian countries, Europe and America. From everywhere,” he said."

I can take Kiev in two weeks, Vladimir Putin warns European leaders

September 1, 2014

By Ben Farmer, Defence Correspondent, in Brussels and Nick Squires in Rome

"The Russian president is reported to have boasted his forces could sweep into Kiev in a fortnight if he wanted to as Nato announced it would build a new “spearhead” rapid reaction force"

"Vladimir Putin has boasted to European leaders that his forces could sweep into Kiev in two weeks if he wanted.

The Russian president reportedly made the threat to the European Commission president during talks on the Ukraine crisis.

Mr Putin told Jose Manuel Barroso: “If I want to, I can take Kiev in two weeks,” Italy’s La Repubblica newspaper reported, implying this could be the result if the EU stepped up sanctions against Russia.

His comments, relayed by Mr Barroso to colleagues at last weekend’s EU summit, emerged as Nato announced it would build a new “spearhead” rapid reaction force of up to 4,000 troops that can be flown into eastern Europe in 48 hours to respond to possible Russian aggression.

The EU’s new head of foreign policy, Federica Mogherini, also warned there was no military solution to what is now Europe’s biggest crisis in decades."

The propaganda mill is running high

Putin's phrase is simply a statement, neither threat nor warning.

"The West" hysterically talks about a russian invasion in Ukraine, that the OSCE just doesn't see happening. So we have the funny situation of reading about 10s of 1'000s of russian soldiers in Ukraine on the front pages of the MSM and the official statement  of OSCE-observers in eastern Ukraine "that there are  no russian troops in Donbass" on page 12...(the truth is out there, it's just harder to find, hehe)

Russias main concern are NATO missile defense and troops directly at her borders. How much sense does it make to expand russian territory towards the missile shield? So why should Russia want to invade UA? Sort of like "If ya don't move your missiles to our border, well, we'll move our borders towards your missiles".... ;).

Russia is definitely NOT the agressor (Just think of Kaganah Sergeant Victoria N. bragging about the 5 billion $$ invested in regime change in the UA). One should consider Putins phrase under the light of the above paragraph. Russias preference is having a stable, prosperous trade partner, that remains non aligned and neutral while functioning as a bridge between the Russian federation and the EU.

The Anglo-Zionists intervention accelerated the failing of the ukrainian state, which by now can be considered to be in free fall, light years away from the stable and prosperous trade partner that Russia wished for. Militarily defeated in the East, f**cking broke, owing a good 30 billions to the RF, the big part of the IMFs 17 billion loan goes up in (literally) smoke, because of the IMFs condition to get control over Donbass.

I suggest reading The Saker's http://www.vineyardsaker.blogspot.ch/2014/09/novorussia-independent-associated-or.html:

snipsnip.......

Six months ago all the eastern Ukrainians wanted were a) guarantees for the Russian language and b) fiscal autonomy.  That's it.  Nothing else.  As for Russia, her position was equally clear: a united and neutral Ukraine respectful of the civil rights of all its citizens. Sounds like a no-brainer, right?

As for the Ukrainian opposition, it officially wanted to remove an oligarch-controlled government and sign an Association with the EU.  Again, pretty straightforward.

Now, think of it, a compromise solution was rather obvious: the election of a new, non-oligarch controlled government which would sign an Association agreement with the EU and commit itself to the civil rights of all Ukrainians, including the cultural and linguistic rights of the eastern Ukrainians.  Yanukovich even went as far as to offer Iatseniuk the post of Prime Minister.  So why did it not happen?

Because the protest movement was completely co-opted, hijacked, manipulated, controlled, financed, organized and run by the USA who used EU political elites and a group of bona fide Nazis to achieve regime change and draw the Ukraine into the AngloZionist sphere of influence.  What they wanted was a Ukraine economically exploited by the EU and militarily owned by the US via NATO.  This plan centered on not only severing away the Ukraine from Russia and its economic union with Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and others, but to also on severing the economic ties between Russia and Europe (an old US goal dating from the Cold War when the US did everything it could to prevent the USSR from selling gas to western Europe).

You can think of the Nazi freaks as the Ukie equivalent of al-Qaeda or ISIS: rabid hateful murderous lunatics who literally cannot contain their hatred and desire to oppress and murder.  Of course, under US pressure, they tried very hard to act like sane and civilized people, but time and again they failed, hence the references to Russian speakers as sub-humans/non-humans, Timoshenko's desire to use nukes to exterminate the "accursed Moskals", the apparently crazy insistence that only Ukrainian be an official language or the equally imbecile categorical refusal of any form of federation.  Needless to say, as soon as these crazies got to power, they immediately passed a series of fantastically stupid and provocative laws such as the re-authorization of Nazi propaganda or the repeal of the official status of the Russian language.  Unsurprisingly, the folks in the east freaked out and correctly concluded that "the Nazis are back".

snipsnap........

One more thing to add: ever heard about a third force in the Ukrainian civil war? Well, we all know about the "government" in Kiev and the "terrorists" (PRDonezk, PRLugansk), but what about Kolomoiski who controls the south (Odessa) with his mercenary army? Did we miss something? If UA gets divided, there might be 4 parts, not just 3. So far Kolomoiskistan is on Kiev's side, but that could change quickly...

11 planes missing from Libyan airport

Islamist militias in Libya took control of nearly a dozen commercial jetliners last month, and western intelligence agencies recently issued a warning that the jets could be used in terrorist attacks across North Africa.

Intelligence reports of the stolen jetliners were distributed within the U.S. government over the past two weeks and included a warning that one or more of the aircraft could be used in an attack later this month on the date marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against New York and Washington, said U.S. officials familiar with the reports.

Obama & State Dept. contradict each other on ‘Russian troops in Ukraine’ - Putin’s spokesman

September 3, 2014

"The US President says it is now “provable” that "Russian combat forces and tanks" moved into Ukraine. But Kremlin says Obama’s words are in conflict with the State Department that said it has no proof of Russian troops in the area.

A statement from the Russian president’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov came in response to Barack Obama’s address to the Baltic States’ leader. Speaking ahead of NATO summit, President Obama said that the US has no doubt that Russian troops are involved in the fighting in eastern Ukraine.

"The Russian forces that have now moved into Ukraine aren't on a 'humanitarian' or 'peacekeeping mission.' They are Russian combat forces with Russian weapons in Russian tanks. There are Russian warheads with Russian weapons and Russian tanks. Now, these are the facts. They are provable. They're not subject to dispute," Obama said at a press-conference in Tallinn."

Georgia to seek invitation to join NATO - president

September 3, 2014

"Georgia will seek an invitation to join NATO at a summit of alliance leaders in Wales this week, President Georgy Margvelashvili announced on Wednesday. “We will shoot for an invitation for NATO membership. But we understand that… decisions are made in a much more complicated way,” Margvelashvili said in a speech at the Chatham House think-tank. NATO signaled earlier this year it would stop short of approving a formal step to membership for Georgia at the summit. The alliance was ready in principle to a “substantive package” of cooperation with Georgia that would help it move closer to the alliance, Reuters said."

Obama hints at NATO membership for Ukraine, urges military support

September 3, 2014

"Barack Obama says the “door to NATO membership will remain open” for new members, while also urging the organization to help strengthen Ukraine’s military. Germany has promised to send non-lethal aid, such as bullet proof vests and medical supplies.

Speaking in Estonia, Obama did not explicitly point to Ukraine when referring to expanding NATO membership to other nations. However, the underlying message was clear for all to see, as he accused Russia of a “brazen assault” on Ukraine.

"And we must reaffirm the principle that has always guided our alliance, for countries that meet our standards and that can make meaningful contributions to allied security, the door to NATO membership will remain open," the US President said, after meeting the leaders of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, who are all NATO members, Reuters reported.

Obama’s comments came after Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk said he wanted his country to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization saying, "Russia is a terrorist state, it is an aggressor state and will bear responsibility under international law."

"Concerning NATO, I consider the most correct decision would be to accept Ukraine as a member of NATO," Ukraine’s prime minister added."

ISIS militants executed up to 770 Iraqi troops in Tikrit – report

September 4, 2014

"Islamic State militants killed up to 770 captured Iraqi soldiers after they captured a former US military base in Tikrit back in June, a new report by Human Rights Watch (HRW) said on Wednesday.

Three new mass execution sites have been discovered at the Camp Speicher air base near the Iraqi city of Tikrit, the international human rights group HRW stated in its report, bringing the total number of sites to five.

According to HRW, the massacres were carried out by militants of the Islamic State (formerly known as ISIS or ISIL) following the siege of the city, located about 190 kilometers north of Baghdad.

The report states that the hardline Islamist group killed anywhere between 560 and 770 men during the slaughter, most of them believed to be Iraqi security forces serving at the former US base."

Western military charter plane lands in Iran

September 5. 2014

By Adam Goldman and Karen DeYoung

"An aircraft chartered by coalition forces in Afghanistan, en route from Bagram air base to Dubai, landed Friday in Bandar Abbas, Iran, after Iranian officials questioned its flight plan, U.S. officials said.

The plane had been contacted by Iranian air traffic controllers, who instructed it to return to Afghanistan and file the correct plan. When the pilots informed the Iranians they did not have enough fuel to return to Bagram, they were asked to land.

One official said Iranian fighter jets had escorted the plane, which was carrying approximately 100 Americans and possibly a pair of Canadians, to the ground. Other officials denied that, and said the plane landed on its own. It was expected to resume its flight quickly."

Cameron’s bid to block returning British jihadists hits legal snag

September 2, 2014

"David Cameron’s plan to block British-born jihadists fighting with the Islamic State (IS) from re-entering the UK are in tatters, as he acknowledged that rendering citizens stateless would contravene international law.

Objections from his Liberal Democrat coalition partners and doubts among key security services also got the better of the prime minister, who announced the policy proposal in the House of Commons on Monday.

He says new measures are still needed to control the flow of British citizens joining the ranks of IS jihadists and returning to the UK, where they would pose a ‘severe’ security threat."

ALERT: ISIS Insurgents Located 8 Miles Away From El Paso, Texas

September 4, 2014

"America is the safest it has ever been in the last 30 years, at least according to President Barack Obama. But just how vulnerable the U.S. is has struck fear into the hearts of Americans, who are cautious of another terrorist attack on the anniversary of September 11 attacks.

Now, shocking evidence has been released that ISIS has established a base very close to home, in preparation for horrific attacks on America herself.

Judicial Watch, a government watchdog group, has released a report claiming that ISIS insurgents are operating in Ciudad Juarez, just 8 miles from El Paso, Texas.

With countless illegal immigrants crossing the Southern border daily, the terrifying news is very believable since ISIS supporters have encouraged insurgents and activists to enter the unsecured U.S. border through Mexico.

Judicial Watch says the information was confirmed by high level law-enforcement and intelligent officials."

Ukraine, pro-Russian rebels reach ceasefire deal

September 5, 2014

By Andrei Makhovsky

"MINSK (Reuters) - Ukraine and pro-Russian rebels reached a ceasefire agreement on Friday, the first step toward ending fighting in eastern Ukraine that has caused the worst standoff between Moscow and the West since the Cold War ended.

The ceasefire deal was struck in the Belarussian capital Minsk along with a deal allowing for prisoner exchanges, deliveries of humanitarian aid and the withdrawal of heavy weapons after five months of a conflict that has killed more than 2,600 people.

Despite some initial shelling in the rebel stronghold of Donetsk after the truce began at 6 p.m. (1100 ET), the ceasefire appeared to be holding. But many residents and combatants were skeptical that the ceasefire could last long or provide the basis for a durable peace settlement. The two sides remain far apart on the future of the region."

U.S. confirms death of al Shabaab leader Godane in Somalia strike

September 5, 2014

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Pentagon confirmed on Friday that Ahmed Abdi Godane, a leader of the al Shabaab Islamist group, was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Somalia this week, calling it a "major symbolic and operational loss" for the al Qaeda-affiliated militants.

"We have confirmed that Ahmed Godane, the co-founder of al Shabaab, has been killed," Rear Admiral John Kirby, the Pentagon's press secretary, said in a statement.

Since taking charge of al Shabaab in 2008, Godane had restyled the group as a global player in the al Qaeda network, carrying out bombings and suicide attacks in Somalia and elsewhere in the region, including the Sept. 21, 2013, attack on the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya, that killed 67 people.

Godane publicly claimed responsibility for the Westgate attack, saying it was revenge for Kenyan and Western involvement in Somalia and noting its proximity to the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

His death leaves a gap in al Shabaab's leadership and was seen as posing the biggest challenge to the group's unity since it emerged as a fighting force eight years ago."

Obama says key allies ready to join U.S. action in Iraq

September 5, 2014

By Steve Holland and Phil Stewart

"President Barack Obama said key NATO allies stood ready to join the United States in military action to defeat Islamic State militants in Iraq as he vowed to 'take out' the leaders of a movement he said was a major threat to the West.

"Obama said the Washington would hunt down and dismantle the organization, which has seized swathes of Iraq and Syria, in the same way it had tackled al Qaeda since the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States and was doing to al-Shabaab in Somalia.

"Key NATO allies stand ready to confront this terrorist threat through military, intelligence and law enforcement as well as diplomatic efforts," Obama said after ministers of 10 nations met on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Wales to form what Washington called a "core coalition"
