Yemen's ex-president: We are ready to work with Russia  << ex president?

August 21, 2016

Tom Finn

"A newly-formed governing council in Yemen could work with Russia to "fight terrorism" by allowing Moscow use of the war-torn country's military bases, Yemen's former president said on Sunday.

Ali Abdullah Saleh, a former counter-terrorism ally of the U.S. who was toppled by mass protests in 2011, told state-owned channel Russia 24 that Yemen was ready to grant Moscow access to air and naval bases.

"In the fight against terrorism we reach out and offer all facilities. Our airports, our ports... We are ready to provide this to the Russian Federation," Saleh said in an interview in Sanaa.

The ex-strongman may lack the clout to implement such an offer. But officials from the party he heads now run a political council that controls much of the country along with the Houthi movement allied to Iran.

For the first time last week Iran let Russian jets take off from its territory to bomb armed groups in Syria.

Russia is the only major country that maintains a diplomatic presence in Yemen where a 16-month war between a Saudi-led coalition and the Houthi rebels has killed over 6,500 people and raised the prospect of famine in the Arab World's poorest country.
snip

hmm Saudi has been wreaking havoc on Yemen, so that who was once an ally of the US, now says he'll work with Russia? Interesting, another of those situations we helped create, and most likely left him to his own devices when they threw him out in 2011, has now turned to Russia?  Saudi's will be thrilled, I'll just bet.  Notice the article didn't specify in Syria, but simply said in the fight against terrorism, perhaps like right there in Yemen, against the Saudi's.

Nigerian Army Says Boko Haram Leader ‘Fatally Wounded’ in Air Strike

August 23, 2016

"Nigeria’s military said it may have killed Abubakar Shekau, the disputed leader of the Islamist militant movement Boko Haram

Shekau was “believed to be fatally wounded” during an air strike on the Sambisa forest in the northeastern state of Borno on Aug. 19, army spokesman Sani Usman said in an e-mailed statement Tuesday.

The announcement was made as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is visiting Nigeria to discuss security issues, including Boko Haram. The Nigerian authorities have reported Shekau’s probable death at least twice before, including in 2014 and 2013."

I'm going to post this, but   pretty convenient it happens as Kerry visits I'd say.  This guy is like Al Qaeda's Zawahari(sp?)..they got him 10 times at least

Seven Killed At American University Campus In Kabul

August 24, 2016

"Afghan security forces take 10 hours to kill gunmen who forced trapped students to tweet from inside the campus begging for help.

At least seven people have been killed after gunmen attacked the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul.

Security forces were alerted to the campus after students tweeted reports of gunfire and explosions and begged for help.

One wrote: "#AUAF under attack. I along with my friends escaped and several other of my friends and professors trapped inside."

A senior police officer told AP a further 30 were wounded before Afghan security forces killed two gunmen.

Police said the attack began at around 6.30pm local time (3pm UK time) on Wednesday with a large explosion that officials later said was a car bomb.

snip
"We were in the class when we heard a loud explosion followed by gunfire. It was very close. Some students were crying, others were screaming," he added.

No foreigners have been reported among the wounded.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack which comes two weeks after two university staff were kidnapped from their car by unknown gunmen.

Their whereabouts are still unknown.

Islamist militant groups, mainly the Afghan Taliban and a local offshoot of Islamic State, have claimed a string of atrocities.

They are aimed at destabilising the country and toppling the Western-backed government of President Ashraf Ghani.

North Korea test-fires sub-launched missile close to Japan

August 24, 2016

Park Chan-Kyong

"North Korea on Wednesday test-fired a submarine-launched missile 500 kilometres (around 300 miles) towards Japan, marking what weapons analysts called a clear step forward for its nuclear strike ambitions.

The flight distance, which was tracked by South Korea's military Joint Chiefs of Staff, far exceeded any previous SLBM tests, suggesting significant progress in technical prowess.

A proven SLBM system would take North Korea's nuclear strike threat to a new level, allowing deployment far beyond the Korean peninsula and a "second-strike" capability in the event of an attack on its military bases.

"While there are still a lot of questions about the details, this test certainly seems to have been successful," said Jeffrey Lewis, director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in California.

"This system is still in development, but North Korea is clearly making progress," Lewis told AFP."

Turkey Invades Northern Syria — Truth of Turkish "Coup" Revealed?

August 24, 2016 The New Atlas

Syria's conflict has escalated into dangerous new territory as Turkish military forces cross the Turkish-Syrian border in an attempt to annex the Syrian city of Jarabulus. The operation includes not only Turkish military forces, but also throngs of Western-backed militants who will likely be handed control of the city before expanding operations deeper into Syria against Syrian government forces.

CqnKb2LUAAANjYI.jpg

With the beginning of the operation, aimed allegedly at seizing the city from militants of the so-called Islamic State as well as preventing the city from falling into the hands of advancing US-backed Kurdish forces, Ankara's move has made several things clear about the current geopolitical dimensions of the ongoing regional conflict.

The "US-Backed" July Coup Was Likely Staged

First, with US warplanes providing close air support  for Turkish operations, claims by Ankara that the US was behind an attempted coup in July appear to have been fabrications and the coup itself likely staged.

Yemen Missiles Hit Facilities of Saudi Oil Giant Aramco

August 26, 2016

"The retaliatory attack took place on Friday, hitting targets in Saudi Arabia’s Jizan region and causing considerable damage to the Aramco facilities there, Yemen’s al-Masirah television reported, according to Press TV.

The Saudi military has been pounding Yemen since March last year to undermine Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement and to restore power to the former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

Nearly 10,000 people, most of them civilians, have been killed in Riyadh’s military aggression which lacks any international mandate.
Also on Friday, Saudi fighters struck residential areas in the Baqim district of the northwestern Yemen province of Sa’ada, killing 11 people.

A day earlier, the fighters had hit a bazaar in the district, killing seven people and injuring 10 others, many of whom are in critical condition.

On Thursday, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein said the Saudi military was using cluster bombs against residential areas in Yemen in violation of international law, blaming the Riyadh regime for most of the civilian casualties in its impoverished southern neighbor."

The Soros Leaks: ----- A Most Important Story You're Not Hearing

Posted By: Watchman
Date: Saturday, 27-Aug-2016 18:14:30

Hannibal Bateman · August 2016

One of the biggest stories is unfolding right now, and most people probably haven’t heard it. It’s the leaks of thousands of emails and documents from George Soros’ “Open Society Foundation”, that detail strategy, tactics, grants, and more from Soros’ global network.

From the U.S. to Europe Soros’ largesse has been exposed as a major prop behind much of our society’s hegemonic liberal discourse. Light is also shed on the plans and tactics being used, particularly against Russia, to undermine traditional
family
structures and European identity worldwide.

As Black Lives Matter burn the streets of Milwaukee, Breitbart News is reporting that Soros has given the organization close to $650,000. Leaving no crisis to waste, the documents make explicit the strategies all of us on the Alt-Right have known Soros and co. have been pursuing for decades. From the documents (emphasis Breitbart):

In particular, recent events offer a unique opportunity to accelerate the dismantling of structural inequality generated and maintained by local law enforcement and to engage residents who have historically been disenfranchised in Baltimore City in shaping and monitoring reform. Building on our existing networks and programs, OSI-Baltimore will focus investments on: 1) creating a culture of accountability for policing in Baltimore, recognizing the pervasive racism, disrespect, and lawlessness that gave rise to recent events; and 2) building the capacity of
activists
in Baltimore to demand and achieve immediate and long-term reforms.

“Dismantling structural inequality” is just another way of saying dispossession.

Further documents reveal the Foundation’s role in funding many of the groups that would later become “Black Lives Matter”. Also striking are the documents stark discussion of demographic realities, however, they do so in a way that’s menacing for members of the Historic American Nation.

In addition to funding local NAACP and Mexican American groups throughout states such as North Carolina and Texas. Such demographic real talk is spoken of in plain language in a way that it never is in Conservatism Inc. For instance, look at the following (emphasis mine):

For much of the past decade, North Carolina has been among the nation’s fastest growing states for three primary reasons: 1) it has a pleasant quality of life, with decent weather and a lower cost of living than the Boston to Washington, DC urban corridor; 2) the employment situation is strong and diversified, with its higher education institutions creating a high tech mecca, principally in the Research-Triangle area of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, that draws many well educated northerners to the state, and the Charlotte area’s rise to be the nation’s second largest banking center after NYC; and 3) the free trade accelerated decline of its historic industries: textiles, furniture, and tobacco has led to new low-wage economies of service, construction, and agribusiness industries that have made the state a magnet for immigrants from Mexico and Central America

Because of these factors, North Carolina now has roughly nine million residents, slightly larger than the population of New York City, making it the third most populous southern state (after Texas and Florida). The state is now the nation’s tenth most populous and continues to grow. It is changing rapidly, with one third of the population now people of color and a tri-racial population dynamic – African-American, Latino, and white –replacing the Black/white dominance of old. North Carolina through the 1990s had the fastest growing immigrant population and in the 2000s had the fastest growing Latino population. This is no Mayberry (and taking TV fiction for what it is, the state likely never was Mayberry).

Soros and the left understand that demographics are destiny, and the sooner the right understands this, the sooner that it can actually fight back.

Of course, it’s not just in the United States that Soros and his foundations are making plays. Throughout Europe, they have been fundamental in shaping establishment and leftist discussion of the “refugee” crisis and various “human rights” issues.

The Daily Caller reports that Soros funded organizations view the crisis as the “new normal” and having “opportunities” to influence public opinion through it. In particular The Daily Caller
notes
the role of the International Migrant Initiative’s role in shaping EU refugee policy:

IMI played a central role in establishing and influencing the goals of two new [European Programme for Integration and Migration] sub-funds on the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) and immigration detention.

Moreover, it has been revealed that Soros was a major funder of the Ukrainian “revolution”. Which is part of Soros’ general strategy against Vladimir Putin’s Russia. A big part of which seems, is because Putin’s Russia won’t buy into the “open society” total vision of Soros and co.

In the wake of these revelations, Russia has already taken steps to curb the influence of Soros non-profits and is wise to do so. If only our “right-wing” would be as brave.

One amusing thing to come from these revelations is the work the Open Society Foundation is doing to promote “human rights” and generally big (L)iberalism in Israel. Which would only lead to the sort of self-doubt and weakness that would lead to the fall of an ethnically homogenous Jewish state. Ha!

One assumes that if this issue is picked up at all, it will be the above that “conservatives” will endlessly kvetch about. Meanwhile, they do their best to support Soros foundations war on Russia over such “human rights” issues as transgenderism, and whatever else is the latest in the multi-kulti death cult that rules us today, all as the same values are being promoted in the United States.

The issue remains the same globally, survival.

European peoples the world over are being dispossessed and hollowed out. These revelations are just the sort of thing we’ve all known for a long time, but it’s nice to see them so plainly stated. But don’t expect to hear about it on the nightly news!

Turkey-syria.svg_-e1464616411951.png

On Wednesday morning, Turkey abruptly launched an all-out military assault on Syria, sending in tanks, troops, and engaging in airstrikes, in concert with airstrikes from the United States, to the northern portions of Syria near the Turkey-Syria border under the guise of combating ISIS forces. At this time, the military operations seem focused around Jarablus.

According to the BBC, “A dozen Turkish tanks and other vehicles have rolled across the Syrian border after heavy shelling of an area held by so-called Islamic State (IS). Military sources told Turkish media 70 targets in the Jarablus area had been destroyed by artillery and rocket strikes, and 12 by air strikes.”

For those who may be wondering exactly what the Turkish goal might be, two points must be mentioned in regards to Turkey’s
actions
which should go some length to demonstrate that the Turks are still focused on destroying the Syrian government as well as preventing the establishment of a Kurdish enclave either in Syria or Turkey.

First, the Turkish military is acting as the
frontal
assault for “moderate” rebel forces like the FSA who are marching in directly behind the Turkish military to hold territory conquered by the Turks. Any association with the Free Syrian Army, a gaggle of Western-backed extremists
indistinguishable from ISIS,
should be a major warning sign to any informed observer that the goal is not to aid in the destruction of terrorist forces in Syria or to assist the Syrian government in its goal to do so.

Second, the Turkish invasion was
accompanied by
American
airstrikes
which clearly indicates that the Turks are operating closely with the United States, which has been chomping at the bit to either directly destroy the Syrian government via military invasion or to create “buffer zones” and “safe zones” in the country to act as forward operating bases for future terrorist proxy operations.

Defense official: Iran confrontations with US Navy up 50 percent this year

August 26, 2016

Lucas Tomlinson

"Dangerous confrontations between Iranian and American warships in the Persian Gulf are up more than 50 percent in 2016 compared with this time last year, according to a U.S. defense official – despite the highly touted nuclear accord, as well as a recent $1.7 billion U.S. payment to Tehran.

The latest incidents of provocative Iranian behavior flared in the Persian Gulf earlier this week, including one filmed by the U.S. Navy. The video showed four Iranian gunboats from its Revolutionary Guard Corps coming within 300 yards of USS Nitze, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer.

The incident was part of a troubling pattern, according to stats shared with Fox News."
snip

I sense something completely wrong about all this.  Those little boats from Iran will do nothing to a  destroyer, but what they ARE doing, is succeeding in making the US Navy look like a bunch of ineffective idiots. Stop whining and do something about it. A 50 caliber round or two in the water might convince them to go bother someone else.  It's akin to a flea biting an elephant, imo.  PC doesn't exist in this situation.  They are deliberately harassing, and what's more, the twits are making one of THE supposed super powers look like woosies in front of the whole world!!  disgusting!!.

VIDEO: Wow! This is HUGE! The Pentagon just announced that it will shoot down Russian aircraft flying over Syria, where they have every right to fly and have presented no threat to US forces.

August 24, 2016

Thomas Madison

"Welcome to Bizzarobamaworld! Barack Hussein, through his DOD press secretary, announced in a Monday press conference that it is installing a no fly zone in Syria that Syrian and Russian aircraft are not permitted to fly within. This is HUGE!

Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook (there’s a punchline there somewhere) was careful not to label the “no fly zone” a “no fly zone.” Instead he kept repeating that US forces will protect “coalition forces” and “partnered operations on the ground.”

From what? Neither the Syrians nor the Russians are going to attack US or coalition forces. So where is the threat that justifies this bizarre no fly zone.

Listen at the 5:20 mark in the video belos as a reporter asks Cook directly, “Are you prepared, is the US military prepared to shoot down a Syrian or Russian aircraft if they threaten US forces?”

Cook replies, “If they threaten US forces, we always have the right to defend our forces.”

Translation: “Yes, we have no problem shooting down Russian aircraft, and we will determine what constitutes a threat.”

In a no fly zone, simply flying through it would constitute a threat."
snip
From the Ron Paul Institute

Reading between the lines in today’s Pentagon press briefing, a bombshell US policy shift is becoming more apparent: Syrian forces and their Russian partners are being told that conducting military operations in some parts of Syrian airspace opens them up to being shot down by the US military.

Pentagon Spokesman Peter Cook was asked numerous times in numerous ways whether this amounts to a US “no fly zone” over parts of Syria. His first response was vague but threatening:

We will use our air power as needed to protect coalition forces and our partnered operations. …We advise the Syrian regime to steer clear of [certain] areas.<<<since when do we have the right to tell Assad that his forces cannot fly over any part of their own country?

In another article I read - it seems the Iranians have every right to do what they are doing, as the US ships have been making high-speed incursions into Iranian territorial waters - dash in and straight out, apparently testing the Iranian responses.

So the real answer will be something again, but as another comment said - maybe the yanks are trying to set up a false-flag operation, so they have the excuse to do more 'Liberating' (oops, bombing and war).

And since there are (apparently) reliable reports of an Israeli F16 being shot down over Syria by a Syrian S-300 missile (and no western media reports),  how long before the Syrian forces install S-300 or S-400 systems further north, and then how will the US react?

I feel we are getting very close to a 'hot' time, specially since there have also been reports of a US drone being shot down over the Crimea landmass.

The question is, who will blink first - somehow I don't think it will be Russia or China for that matter.

I remember the PNAC White Paper published in 1997.  It listed 5 countries as The Axis of Evil.  Those 5 countries were Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, and N. Korea.  That really tells the whole story. It started then, and 9/11 was "The New Pearl Harbor" used to get the ball rolling.  It has never quit since, in regard to many things. We all know "they" want their war.  This election is more important than many know.  When we have a Saudi Prince telling us he expects us to send our men to die taking out Assad, yet refuses to send his own men to do it, it makes me wonder who's pockets he's lined, for what promises.

END FOR MERKEL? German leader facing revolt from own party as she ignores election defeat

Sept. 6, 2016

Alix Culbertson

"ANGELA Merkel's own party is revolting against her as the leader jetted off to China instead of dealing with German politics following a worrying election defeat.

The Christian Social Union (CSU), Mrs Merkel's Bavarian sister group to her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) has hit out with accusations the German Chancellor is out of touch.

The CDU suffered an embarrassing electoral defeat in the right-wing state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania last week as voters responded to Mrs Merkel's open-door migrant policy.

Last year the policy meant 1.1 million migrants came to Germany which has caused social upheaval and much political anger.

CSU leader Horst Seehofer, the usually outspoken prime minister of Bavaria, has held his tongue since the result on Sunday - until now.

He said: "The situation for the Union is highly threatening.

"People want to be taken seriously, but they are not.

"People do not want these 'Berliner policies'."

‘We’ll never have peace’: Philippines leader Duterte wants to boot US troops out of country’s south

Sept. 12, 2016

"The Philippines president says US troops “have to go” from the south of his country. He blames American soldiers for inflaming tensions with the local Muslim population, saying they would “never have peace” with a US military presence.

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte says he is opposed to US soldiers being stationed in the southern Mindanao region, recalling how American troops took part in a pacification plan against Muslim Filipinos going back over a century. He said that this has caused a long period of resentment from the minority Muslim population against a majority of Catholics in the south.

“For as long as we stay with America, we will never have peace in that land,” Duterte said on Monday, as cited by the AP.

He displayed some black and white photographs dating from the early 1900s that showed women and children that had been killed by US forces.

“The special forces, they have to go. They have to go in Mindanao, there are many whites there, they have to go,” he said, adding that he was reorienting the country’s foreign policy. “I do not want a rift with America, but they have to go.”

He also warned that US troops would face difficulties if they decided not to heed his advice and leave.

“If they see Americans, they’ll really kill them. They’ll get ransom and then kill you, even if you are a black or a white American as long as you’re an American,” he said.

Despite the bold declaration of his intention to kick the US military out of the south of the Philippines, Duterte did not say how this would be achieved or give a timeframe within which this might happen.

Washington did not receive an official demand from the Philippine government with regards to the matter, US State Department spokesman John Kirby told a news conference when asked about the statement made by Duterte, Reuters reported."

I'm not saying he's right or wrong, just thinking he may wish to not flap his gums quite so loud, but then, considering the damage done to the US military and US standing all over the world in the last 8 years, and the disrespect being shown to O all over the world lately, who knows?

Syrian army says U.S.-led coalition jets bombed it in support of Islamic State

Sept. 17, 2016

"BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syria's army general command said warplanes from the U.S.-led coalition bombed a Syrian army position at Jebel Tharda near Deir al-Zor airport on Saturday, paving the way for Islamic State fighters to overun it.

The air strike killed Syrian soldiers and was "conclusive evidence" that the U.S. and its allies support the jihadist group, the Syrian army said in a statement, noting that the strike was "dangerous and blatant aggression".

The U.S.-led coalition has been conducting air strikes against Islamic State since September 2014. In December Damascus accused the coalition of striking an army camp near Deir al-Zor, but Washington said it was done by Russian jets.

A strike list issued by the U.S. on Saturday said it had carried out a strike at Deir al-Zor against five Islamic State supply routes, as well as strikes near Raqqa and elsewhere in Syria.

Syria's army controls Deir al-Zor airport and parts of the city which are otherwise entirely surrounded by territory held by Islamic State.

The United States and Russia agreed a deal on Syria last week, involving a ceasefire which came into effect on Monday, aid deliveries to besieged areas and eventual joint targeting of militant jihadist groups if the truce works out."

‘US is defending ISIS’: Russia convenes UNSC meeting after US coalition strike on Syrian army
Sept. 17, 2016

"Moscow has called an urgent UN Security Council meeting after US-led coalition hit Syrian forces, killing 62 soldiers and wounding 100 more. The Russian FM spokeswoman blasted Washington over the indiscriminate airstrike that she said serves the interests of ISIS terrorists.

“If previously we had suspicions that Al-Nusra Front is protected this way, now, after today's airstrikes on the Syrian army we come to a really terrifying conclusion for the entire world: The White House is defending IS [islamic State, formerly ISIS/ISIL]," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Rossiya 24.

“We demand a full and detailed explanation from Washington. That explanation must be given at the UN Security Council,” Zakharova added.

The Foreign Ministry has demanded full and detailed explanation from Washington over the incident in Deir ez-Zor, in which 62 Syrian troops were killed and over 100 injured."

Russia: U.N. Security Council meeting on Syria canceled over U.S. objections
Sept. 16, 2016

"UNITED NATIONS A hastily scheduled Security Council meeting was canceled because the U.S. does not want to make public details of the Syrian cease-fire deal, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations said Friday.

Vitaly Churkin said there was no point in briefing the council if the U.S. did not want to say exactly what was in the documents outlining the deal hammered out last week by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Moscow stressed that it is concerned by the US airstrike targeting the Syrian army units which had been destroying Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants.

The ministry added that the Russian side had never been notified of US plans to carry out bombings in the Deir ez-Zor area.

"Immediately after the airstrike by coalition planes, Islamic State militants launched their offensive,” said the chief of the Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria, Lieutenant General Vladimir Savchenko. He added that the Russian air force intervened immediately to halt terrorist advances and have conducted at least 10 airstrikes on Islamists’ positions since 7:00pm local time.

“[uS coalition] strikes have cleared the way for ISIS fighters to take over Deir ez-Zor city now,” confirmed Syrian Minister of Defense Fahd Jassem al-Freij. “It is only because of Russian Air Force support [that] the offensive of the terrorist group was stopped. We request that the air support for the Syrian armed forces be continued by the Russian air force in order to destroy the terrorists.”"

Timing & other aspects of US strike on Syrian army suggest intentional provocation – Churkin
Sept. 18, 2016

"The US’ sudden attempt to “help” the Syrian army fighting ISIS in the eastern city of Deir ez-Zor, which resulted in a strike that killed and injured dozens of soldiers, does not look like an honest mistake, Russia’s UN envoy told journalists at the UNSC meeting.

“It is highly suspicious that the United States chose to conduct this particular air strike at this time,” Russia’s ambassador Vitaly Churkin said.

Churkin questioned why the US suddenly chose to “help” the Syrian army defend Deir ez-Zor after all these years, recalling how American forces just observed terrorists’ movements and did “nothing when ISIS advanced on Palmyra.”

“It was quite significant and not accidental that it happened just two days before the Russian-American arrangements were supposed to come into full force,” Churkin added.

Churkin also questioned why the US decided to classify and not share with the public or even members of the Security Council the text of the US-Russia deal reached in Geneva, before reading out two passages from the document.

The preamble of the document signed by both nations on September 9 read that the US and Russia are prepared to undertake “joint efforts” to stabilize the situation in Syria with special emphasis on the Aleppo region, and would separate moderate opposition forces from those of Al-Nusra. The second passage, presented by Churkin, read that the purpose of the Joint Implementation Group (JIG) is to “enable expanded coordination” between the US and Russia to work together to defeat Jabhat Al-Nusra and Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and support the political transition process.

“The beginning of work of the Joint Implementation Group was supposed to be September 19. So if the US wanted to conduct an effective strike on Al-Nusra or ISIS, in Deir ez-Zor or anywhere else, they could wait two more days and coordinate with our military and be sure that they are striking the right people.”

“Instead they chose to conduct this reckless operation,” Churkin said."

Of course, the US press is barely covering this US -led bombing of the Syrian army (though they could be covering it on TV, I wouldn't know).

Does anyone think that the increase in pipe and pressure cooker bombs this weekend is somehow related to this Syria incident?

Syria declares end of ceasefire, US seeks clarification from Russia

Sept. 19, 2016

"The initial seven days of the nationwide ceasefire in Syria have run their course, the Syrian Army has declared. However, it failed to add whether the truce will be reinstated in the near future. In response the US has called on Russia to clarify the statement made by the Syrians.

The Syrian Army’s statement blames “terrorist groups” for jeopardizing the cessation of hostilities, Reuters reports.

"It was assumed that the ceasefire will present a real chance to end the bloodshed, but terrorist groups did not adhere to any of the points of the agreement on a ceasefire, the number of violations on their part has exceeded 300," reads the statement published by SANA news.

According to the statement, the Syrian Army has "shown the highest level of endurance in confronting the abuses by terrorist groups."

The Russia-US brokered cessation of hostilities came into force on September 12 at 16:00 GMT. The deal was signed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his US counterpart, Secretary of State John Kerry, after marathon talks in Geneva earlier this month.

The Syrian Army claims that “armed terrorist groups took advantage of the declared ceasefire” in order to regroup and mobilize additional forces.

It adds that the militants aimed to continue attacks on “residential areas” and military sites in several regions, including the war-ravaged city of Aleppo.

The US responded by saying it is expecting Russia to clarify the statement made by the Syrian Army.

“Our arrangement is with Russia, which is responsible for the Syrian regime's compliance, so we expect Russia to clarify their position,” US State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a statement, according to Reuters."

Source Discloses Coordination between US, ISIL in Attacking Syrian Army in Deir Ezzur
Sept. 18, 2016

"The source said after the coalition's pounding of the Syrian army near Deir Ezzur airbase, the ISIL could take full control of al-Tharda mountain and then Deir Ezzur military base, adding that the army and national defense forces deployed near the airbase immediately won it back from the terrorists by launching a counterattack.

Noting that Deir Ezzur is now almost in tranquility and no change has occurred in the military map of the region, the source said by attacking the Syrian army positions, the US seeks to prevent military operations to break the terrorists' siege on the city.

The source said the simultaneous raid of the ISIL terrorists immediately after the coalition airstrikes is the best evidence of the high coordination done between the US and the terrorists.

Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday that four strikes against Syrian positions had been delivered by US-led coalition aircraft, including two F-16 jet fighters and two A-10 support aircraft.

The Syrian military called the bombing a "serious and blatant aggression" against Syrian forces, and said it was "conclusive evidence" that the US and its allies support ISIL militants.

Also on Sunday, the Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman blasted Washington over the recent airstrikes near Deir Ezzur, and said such moves serves the interests of the ISIL terror group."

Meanwhile in Puerto RIco

Most Puerto Ricans face a second night without electricity

Sept. 22, 2016

"SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Most Puerto Ricans faced another night of darkness Thursday as crews slowly restored electricity a day after a fire at a power plant caused the aging utility grid to fail and blacked out the entire island of 3.5 million people.

Only about 20 percent of the 1.5 million homes and businesses served by the power utility had power back by Thursday afternoon, and Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla said they hoped half would be reconnected by the end of the day. Nearly all of the rest were expected to get electricity again Friday, said Garcia, who declared a state of emergency.

Garcia expressed sympathy for people's frustrations over the outage, which comes amid a decade-long economic crunch that has worn down Puerto Ricans.

"We all want the system to be back online," the governor said. "Let's hold someone responsible for this. Blame me. I'll take the blame."

The power company posted a tweet expressing annoyance over people cursing at its workers, saying such behavior wasn't justified.

In Venezuelan hospital, newborns in cardboard boxes

Newborn babies sleep inside cardboard boxes in a Venezuelan hospital.

"Photos released by Venezuela's opposition this week show a dramatically different scene than you'd expect to see in a hospital nursery.

The images show newborn babies in cardboard boxes, lined up on a counter.

A hospital employee took the photos, according to the opposition group that released them.

The images purportedly were taken at the government-run Domingo Guzmán Lander Hospital in the coastal city of Barcelona, about 315 kilometers (195 miles) east of Caracas. CNN has not been able to independently verify the authenticity of the photos and it is unclear when they were taken.

Mesa de la Unidad Democratica, the coalition of opposition organizations that released the images, says the scene is another sign of a crisis hitting the country's health care system.

Authorities are investigating, according to the government official who runs the institute that oversees the Barcelona hospital and others across the country.

"We in no way justify the actions taken," Venezuelan Social Security Institute President Carlos Rotondaro said on Twitter Tuesday.

But he also defended the health care system."

Parenting Magazine Warns ‘Blond, Cheerful’ Families Dangerous, Likely Right Wing

Virginia Hale

Sept. 25, 2016

"Parenting magazine Baby & Family has told readers to beware of families who are “inconspicuous” and “cheerful”, as these warning signs indicate they are right wing and thus “dangerous”.

Depicted with illustrations featuring solely blonde women and children, the report says ordinary parents must take action against right-wing families and make clear that their ideology has no place in the world.

Asserting that the term “right wing” “stirs up anxiety” and brings to mind “burning refugee homes”, skinheads, and the National Socialist Underground (NSU) group who carried out a string of violent attacks on foreign people, Baby & Family notes that people “rarely connect it with women, family and children”.

This, the high-circulation German magazine declares, “is precisely the great risk” as such people are just as dangerous if not more so as gangs of Nazi skinheads. The identifying features of right-wing families, it contends, are that they are “inconspicuous, blond, cute and engaged”.

“First of all, [right-wing families] are nice and dedicated” Michaela Köttig, sociologist and researcher of right-wing extremism at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, alleges.

SMH on this one  So then this is German, think of the message it sends to the refugees living there.

NUKE FACE-OFF Pakistan threatens to DESTROY India with nuclear bomb as atomic enemies edge to the brink of war

Sept. 30, 2016

BY SARA KAMOUNI

"Tensions have risen dramatically between the nuclear-armed neighbours

PAKISTAN’S Defence Minister has threatened to “destroy” India – after India said on Thursday it had carried out “surgical strikes” on suspected militants preparing to infiltrate from Pakistan-ruled Kashmir.

The strikes, which were a response to shots fired across the de facto border through the disputed Himalayan territory, could lead to a military escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours – risking a ceasefire agreed in 2003.
snip
Tensions have been heightened since an attack on an Indian military base in Kashmir earlier this month, which left 18 soldiers dead.

Both countries claim Kashmir in full, but rule separate parts – and have fought three wars over Kashmir since gaining independence from Britain in 1947."

Pakistan fury after India conducts military strikes on Kashmir border
Sept. 29, 2016
Andrew Marszhal

"India said on Thursday it had launched surgical strikes on "terrorists" inside Pakistan-controlled Kashmir for the first time, marking a major escalation between the two nuclear-armed rivals.

Officials said Indian ground troops had crossed a few hundreds metres inside Pakistan-controlled Kashmir to destroy six to eight terrorist “launch pads” - structures close to the border used by militants preparing to infiltrate into India.

The strikes before dawn on Thursday were in direct response to a spate of recent cross-border attacks on Indian-controlled Kashmir, which New Delhi has blamed on Pakistan amid rapidly worsening relations between the countries.

Thursday’s military strikes were in direct response to intelligence warnings of further, immediate cross-border threats, officials said. Casualties on the Pakistani side were in the “double digits”, and fatalities of Pakistani army troops could not be ruled out despite the raid targeting terrorists.

No Indian casualties were reported."

The most recent such incident, on India’s Uri army base on September 18, left 18 soldiers dead, and was the deadliest attack on Indian security forces in over a decade.

On the other hand, in Finland, babies in boxes is a positive thing - since the 30's.

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/07/07/world/what-in-the-world/finland-baby-box.html

Finland provides all mothers-to-be with a baby box, but there’s a string attached. To receive it, the mother has to undergo a medical exam during the first four months of pregnancy.

Each year the government gives away about 40,000 of the boxes, which come with bedding and about 50 other baby items, including clothes, socks, a warm coat and even a baby balaclava for the icy Nordic winter. (Mothers who don’t need all those items can choose to get 140 euros instead, or about $155.)

Russia suspends weapons-grade plutonium disposal deal with US amid sanctions

October 3, 2016

William Watkinson

"Russia has suspended an agreement with the US that was leading to the disposal of tonnes of weapons-grade plutonium as relations between the two countries worsens.

President Vladimir Putin has accused the US of creating "a threat to strategic stability, as a result of unfriendly actions" towards Moscow, adding to tensions between the countries which have spiked due to Russian actions in Syria and Ukraine.

The two former Cold War foes agreed the accord in 2000 and it was reaffirmed in 2010. It says each country must dispose of at least 34 tonnes of plutonium by burning it in nuclear reactors.

But since the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan in 2011, the US has opposed the construction of specially-built fuel reprocessing plants in favour of mixing plutonium with other substances before being sent for long-term storage.

Russia says this method of storage is reversible and Putin said in April that the US had destroyed the plutonium in a way that it could still be used again in nuclear weapons.

The US rejected Putin's claims, insisting the adjusted method did not violate their agreements."
