At least 12 injured after lava explosion near tour boat off Big Island

At least a dozen people were injured after a lava explosion sent rocks and debris flying into the air and landing on a tour boat off Kapoho early Monday, according to Hawaii County officials.

MORE

According to Big Island fire officials, a lava bomb punctured the roof of the boat, leaving a large hole.

It happened sometime in the early morning hours, but it's not clear exactly what time. However, county officials said the lava tour boat returned to Wailoa Harbor in Hilo with the injured passengers around 7 a.m.

Japan volcano ERUPTION: Mount Shinmoedake ‘connected by MAGMA’ to second volcano

JAPAN’s deadly volcanoes Mount Shinmoedake and Mount Sakurajima are both linked by a deep reservoir of magma, a startling study has found.

PUBLISHED: 15:15, Sun, Jul 15, 2018 | UPDATED: 15:26, Sun, Jul 15, 2018

So basically Japanese case had proven that the RISK IS REAL. Not funny at all.

And this was available on the USGS site:

Can an eruption at one volcano trigger an eruption at another nearby volcano (for example, within about 10 km)?

Vanuatu: Ambae island evacuated again over volcano eruption

July 27, 2018

Volcanic ash covering the forest on Ambae

"A Vanuatu island is being fully evacuated for a second time as its volcano erupts again.

The Manaro Voui volcano began spewing ash in recent days, prompting officials to order thousands of residents on tiny Ambae island to leave immediately.

The volcano began rumbling in September last year, which led to the island's first full evacuation.

Now officials in the South Pacific nation say it once again presents a danger to life.

Foreign Minister Ralph Regenvanu tweeted that Friday's evacuation was compulsory. Residents are being moved to neighbouring islands."

Papua New Guinea volcano erupts, sending villagers fleeing

August 25, 2018             Toyin Owoseje

"Thousands of villagers have been forced to flee Papua New Guinea’s Manam Island after a volcano erupted.

Around 2000 of the island’s 9000 population had to be evacuated to safer ground in the early hours of Saturday.

The natural disaster began at 6am local time, sending an ash column more than 15km above sea level, the Rabaul Volcano Observatory (RVO) said.

The ash falls were so dense that sunlight was blocked for hours and trees broke under the weight.

"The most affected areas are Baliau and Kuluguma and due to the very poor visibility caused by the ash fall, people are using torch light to move around," the RVO’s information bulletin read.

The observatory’s principal geodetic surveyor, Steve Saunders, said that although the initial phase of the eruption was over, a new vent opening indicated that further volcanic activities were expected."

Giant Icelandic volcano is 'about to erupt' on scale that dwarfs explosion which halted air travel across Europe

Sept. 23, 2016            Leigh McManus

Scientists have warned that Katla is showing clear signs it's going to blow
Katla is a close neighbour to Eyjafjallajokull that erupted devastatingly in 2010
British and Icelandic scientists say Katla is releasing C02 on a 'huge' scale

"A giant and 'highly hazardous' volcano in Iceland is showing signs that it could erupt on a scale that dwarfs the explosion that disrupted worldwide air travel eight years ago.

Scientists have warned that Katla, a close neighbour to Eyjafjallajokull that erupted in 2010, is showing clear signs it's going to blow for the first time since 1918 and it's not a matter of if, but when.

Katla's cone is hidden beneath a glacier on a 5,000ft peak, making monitoring its activity difficult but Icelandic and British scientists have found by airborne measurement techniques that Katla is releasing carbon dioxide on a 'huge' scale."

Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier classified as 'very high threat' for eruption

Government scientists are classifying 18 U.S. volcanoes as a "very high threat" because of what's been happening inside them and how close they are to people.

The U.S. Geological Survey is updating its volcano threat assessments for the first time since 2005. The danger list is topped by Hawaii's Kilauea, which has been erupting this year. The others in the top five are Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier in Washington, Alaska's Redoubt Volcano and California's Mount Shasta.

OL DOINYO LENGAI: THE STRANGEST VOLCANO ON EARTH

6a01116860210d970c01a511be0e4f970c-pi.pn

"Ol Doinyo Lengai, located in Tanzania, is the only known actively erupting carbonatite volcano on the planet (specifically, natrocarbonatites), and is one of the most unique volcanic landscapes on the planet. Carbonatite lavas are unique- they’re volcanic rocks with high levels of carbon that occur only in tectonic rifting zones. Ol Doinyo Lengai’s magma also contains high levels of sodium, meaning that the magma is water soluble. It also looks nothing like you’d expect magma to look like, as you can see in the video. The magma has been known to freeze in midair, and shatter upon hitting the ground. Short lived, strange looking sculptures dangling off rocks are also known to occur."

Despite being a volcano with extremely low viscosity lava (the lowest of any volcano on the planet, in fact), it does not take on the shield volcano shape one would expect- instead it more closely resembles a stratocone with an unusual flat top. The unusual shape is likely the product of at least a couple of processes. First off, and likely most importantly, even though the lava does have extremely low viscosity, its low temperatures mean that it solidifies rapidly, which means it only travels distances comparable to more viscous lavas. Secondly, the rapid erosion rate of natrocarbonatite lava deposits would also help it maintain its shape. This can be seen in the countless erosion channels visible on its slopes."

Etna volcano (Italy): eruption intensifies, possibly heading towards a paroxysm

A significant event is in progress at the volcano. Strong seismic activity, felt by people, has been accompanying the opening of several fractures in the summit area, most notably on the eastern and southern flanks of the New SE crater, which is emitting dense ash plumes.
The activity of the volcano is increasing and looks as if going towards a paroxysm.

Indonesia’s Volatile Child of Krakatau Collapsed, but Now It’s More Explosive

The volcano that unleashed a tsunami and killed more than 400 people has collapsed to about a third of its previous height and is ejecting superheated magma into the sea, magnifying the power of the eruptions and sending ash more than a mile into the air.

The volcano, called Anak Krakatau, partially collapsed in a violent spasm on Dec. 22, causing a massive landslide that sent high waves barreling toward both shores of the Sunda Strait, the narrow passage between the islands of Java and Sumatra. The volcano’s cone is now about 360 feet above sea level, Indonesian officials said Saturday, reduced from more than 1,000 feet before the collapse.

Volcanoes erupt or collapse when a buildup of pressure inside becomes too much for the cone to sustain. Anak Krakatau has been erupting since June and scientists say it is impossible to tell what it will do next, but it could erupt violently or the stress on the rock could force another collapse and send a landslide into the strait, triggering another tsunami.

Magma Under The Yellowstone Supervolcano Is “Rising”, And Scientists Warn That An Eruption Would Devastate The Entire Planet

Could it be possible that a full-blown eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano is not too far away?  All over the world seismic activity has been increasing in recent years, and this process seems to have accelerated during the early days of 2019.  In particular, quite a few once dormant volcanoes are springing to life again, and this has many concerned about what could potentially happen at Yellowstone.  Of course Yellowstone has never been “dormant”, but there have been new signs of life over the past six months.  Entirely new geysers have sprung out of the ground, Steamboat Geyser has been the most active that it has been in decades, and some geysers have even been shooting “debris and rocks” into the sky.  And now we are being told that “a 465-mile-long piece of molten rock” is “rising” directly under Yellowstone…
