Iraq’s Attack Against ISIS Catches U.S. ‘By Surprise’

Nancy A. Youssef

March 2, 2015

"The biggest offensive against ISIS so far happened without American help—but with plenty of assistance from Iran.

The Iraqi military launched a major campaign to take back a key city from the self-proclaimed Islamic State over the weekend—a move that caught the U.S. “by surprise,” in the words of one American government official.

The U.S.-led coalition forces that have conducted seven months of airstrikes on Iraq’s behalf did not participate in the attack, defense officials told The Daily Beast, and the American military has no plans to chip in.

Instead, embedded Iranian advisers and Iranian-backed Shiite militias are taking part in the offensive on the largely Sunni town, raising the prospect that the fight to beat back ISIS could become a sectarian war.

The news is the latest indication that not all is well with the American effort against the terror group. On Friday, U.S. defense officials told The Daily Beast that a planned offensive against the ISIS stronghold of Mosul had been indefinitely postponed. Over the weekend, an American-backed rebel group in Syria announced that it was dissolving, and joining an Islamist faction."

In Tikrit, Offensive, Confusion and Tragedy of US Policy Laid Bare

Sarah Lazare

March 4, 2015

"Latest military operation by the Iraqi Army and allied forces underscores the "horror" of the situation inside Iraq

As Iraqi government forces and Shia militias wage the largest counter-offensive yet against the ISIS-held city of Tikrit, the United States is publicly distancing itself from the attack, in a move that analysts say underscores the confusion—and tragedy—of U.S. policy in the Middle East.

Launched Monday, the attack is the third Iraqi government attempt to capture Tikrit, the hometown of Saddam Hussein located northwest of Baghdad, after the city was seized by ISIS in June. Shia militias are playing a heavy role in the operation, comprising between a half and two-thirds of the up to 30,000-strong force. Iranian advisers are numbered among the ground forces near front lines, including Qasem Soleimani, head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s overseas unit.

The forces are reportedly moving towards the city, their pace halted by fighting and the numerous mines and bombs blocking their route. Meanwhile, residents of the Sunni-majority municipality are reportedly fleeing over fears of ethnic cleansing, atrocities, and civilian killings from the feared Shia militias and Iraqi forces, both of whom are guilty of severe human rights abuses.

Threats issued ahead of the offensive suggest residents of Tikrit have cause for concern.Addressing parliament on Monday, the U.S.-backed Iraqi Prime Minister Hayder al-Abadi declared, "There is no neutrality in the battle against ISIS. If someone is being neutral with ISIS, then he is one of them." Meanwhile, Hadi al-Amiri, head of the Badr Militia, has openly threatened revenge killings in the offensive."

Senior leader of Al-Qaida affiliate killed in Syria

March 6, 2015

By Ed Adamczyk

"Abu Hamman al-Shami, senior commander of the Syrian al-Qaida branch al-Nusra Front, was killed in an airstrike.

He died Thursday during a special operation of the Syrian army, which is fighting the Islamic State and al-Nusra in Syria.

Al-Shami was regarded as al-Nusra's military strategist, and was involved in earlier al-Qaida operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was also part of Iraqi al-Qaida leader, Abu Musab al Zarqawi's inner circle, before arriving to lead Syria's militants.

Al-Nusra confirmed his death Thursday, as did SANA, Syria's state news agency."

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad: “The West has no Desire to Combat Terrorism”. West Channels “Money and Armaments” to ISIS

March 6, 2015

By Bashar al Assad

"President Bashar al-Assad gave an interview to Portuguese State Television, RTP,  the following is the full text:

Question 1: In a few days, it will be 4 years since the protests began in Syria against the government of Bashar al-Assad. From then on it has been a massacre. More than 220 thousand people have died, and there are 4 million displaced people. The arrival of Daesh (Islamic State) has made the situation more grim. For this reasons, it’s important to speak to a key figure in all this process. Today, he gives his first interview ever to a Portuguese media outlet. The Syrian President, Bashar Al Assad.

How do you describe your country today, Mr. President?

President Assad: Let me start by commenting on the number that you mentioned in your introduction, about the number of victims in Syria, which is 200,000, that’s been mentioned in the Western media recently, 220,000. That number is exaggerated. Always the West has exaggerated the numbers in Syria. Actually, it is not about whether they are hundreds of thousands or tens of thousands. Victims are victims, killing is killing, and terrorism is terrorism. Actually, it’s not about being a mere number represented on a graph, on a chart, like a spreadsheet. It’s about families that lost members, lost dear ones, lost relatives. It’s a human disaster we have in Syria.

This crisis has affected every part of Syria, every Syrian citizen regardless of his affiliation or allegiance. It affected his livelihood, food, medicaments, medical care, basic requirements like education. Hundreds of hospitals were destroyed, thousands of schools were destroyed, tens of thousands or maybe hundreds of thousands of students don’t go to school. All that will create the fertile habitat and good incubator for terrorism and extremism to grow. But despite all this hardship, the Syrians are determined to continue fighting terrorism, defending their country, and defying hegemony.

Question 2: Syria is not much of a country nowadays. The Syrian Army does not control all the borders, you have international coalition flying in your skies. On the grounds there are different entities. Is Syria as we have known it lost or finished?"

Washington stokes Middle East bloodbath

March 6, 2015

"Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chief of the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a congressional committee Wednesday that US troops may be sent into Syria to fight alongside so-called rebels who are seeking the overthrow of the Damascus government of President Bashar al-Assad.

“If the commander on the ground approaches either me or the secretary of defense and believes that the introduction of special operations forces to accompany Iraqis or the new Syrian forces ... if we believe that's necessary to achieve our objectives, we will make that recommendation,” Dempsey told the House Appropriations Committee’s defense panel.

Dempsey’s testimony was preceded by that of Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, who allowed that Washington’s strategy in relation to the “Syria piece” is to “create a third force that can combat ISIL [the administration’s preferred acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria-ISIS] and set the conditions for the eventual removal of Bashar Assad.”

US Secretary of State John Kerry, who was on Thursday in the midst of a trip to Saudi Arabia to reassure the Sunni potentates of the Persian Gulf that US nuclear negotiations with Shiite Iran would not erode Washington’s counterrevolutionary alliance with these monarchical oil states, spoke along similar lines.

Kerry reiterated Washington’s commitment to regime change in Syria. “Ultimately a combination of diplomacy and pressure will be needed to bring about a political transition,” he told reporters, adding that “military pressure may be needed.”

There is a growing sense that, six months after President Barack Obama announced the new US war in both Iraq and Syria, this intervention has reached a turning point that threatens to unleash yet another massive bloodletting on the peoples of the region."

ISIS could not be a more effective part of America’s plans to overthrow the Syrian government and destroy the Syrian state if it had an office at the Pentagon.

Having failed to achieve any of its objectives in Syria, it inexplicably “invaded” Iraq, affording the US military a means of “easing into” the conflict by first confronting ISIS in Iraq, then following them back across the border into Syria. When this scheme began to lose its impact on public perception, ISIS first started executing Western hostages including several Americans. When the US needed the French on board, ISIS executed a Frenchman. When the US needed greater support in Asia, two Japanese were beheaded. And just ahead of President Obama’s recent attempt to formally authorize the use of military force against “ISIS,” a Jordanian pilot was apparently burned to death in a cage in an unprecedented act of barbarity that shocked even the most apathetic.

The theatrics of ISIS parallel those seen in a Hollywood production. This doesn’t mean ISIS didn’t really burn to death a Jordanian pilot or behead scores of hostages. But it does mean that a tremendous amount of resources and planning were put into each murder, except apparently, the effect it would have of rallying the world behind the US and its otherwise hopelessly stalled efforts to overturn the government of Syria.

Could ISIS have built a set specifically to capture dramatic shots like a flame trail passing the camera on its way to the doomed Jordanian pilot, planned crane shots, provided matching uniforms for all the extras on their diabolical movie set, but failed to consider the target audience and how they would react to their production? Could they have, just by coincidence, given exactly what the United States needed to continue its war on Syria in 2015 when it otherwise had effectively failed in 2013?

The answer is obviously no. ISIS’s theatrics were designed specifically to accomplish this. ISIS itself is a fictional creation. In reality the legions of terrorists fighting across the Arab World under the flag of “ISIS” are the same Al Qaeda militants the US, Saudi Arabia and others in an utterly unholy axis have been backing, arming and exploiting in a variety of ways for decades.

Just as the “Islamic State” in Iraq was exposed as a fictional cover for what was also essentially Al Qaeda (as reported by the NYT in their article, “Leader of Al Qaeda group in Iraq was fictional, U.S. military says“), ISIS too is just the latest and greatest re-visioning yet.

The fighters are real. Their atrocities are real. The notion that they’ve sprung out of the dunes of Syria and Iraq, picked their weapons from local date trees and have managed to wage war regionally against several collective armies is entirely fantasy. Required to maintain ISIS’ ranks would be billions in constant support. These are billions ISIS simply cannot account for from hostage ransoms and black market oil alone. The only source that could prop ISIS up for as long as it has allegedly existed and to the extent it allegedly exists, is a state or collection of states intentionally sponsoring the terrorist enterprise.

ISIS controls as many as 90,000 Twitter accounts which it uses to spread sick propaganda and radicalise Westerners, terror experts reveal

John Hall

March 6, 2015

"Web-savvy militants fighting for the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq could control as many as 90,000 Twitter accounts worldwide, allowing them to spread their sickening propaganda with ease.

The terror group is able to 'exert an outsized impact on how the world perceives it' because of its shrewd use of social media and sheer number of online followers, terror experts have concluded.

Recommendations in the report by the Washington-based Brookings Institute report include governments and social media companies working together to find new ways to tackle the problem of pro-ISIS accounts spreading horrific murder videos and images and jihadist rhetoric

The report, by Brookings academic JM Berger and technologist Jonathon Morgan, says: 'While we do not believe that any mainstream social media platform wishes to see its services used to further acts of horrific violence, we also suspect some would rather not be bothered with the challenge of crafting a broad and coherent response to the issue.

'While we can sympathise with the challenges and dilemmas such a response would entail, it is clear that social media companies do feel an obligation to respond to some social standards and illegal uses of their services."

Governor’s office confirms ISIL commander treated in western Turkey

March 5, 2015

"The Denizli Governor's Office has confirmed media reports claiming that a commander of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is being treated at a university hospital in the western Turkish province.

A statement from the Denizli Governor's Office said Emrah Ç., a Turkish man who is registered in the Malazgirt district of the southeastern province of Muş, went to Pamukkale University Hospital after being injured in a bomb attack during combat in Syria.

“Judicial procedures regarding his injury were carried out when he crossed into Turkey from Syria. His treatment is still underway in Denizli in accordance with the right to receive medical attention, just like a normal citizen,” the statement said.

The statement said that Emrah Ç. -- after being treated at a hospital in the border province of Antakya -- came to Denizli because he has relatives in the province.

Turkey has been the target of criticism for allegedly turning a blind eye to foreign fighters crossing into Syria and Iraq from Turkey to join ISIL. The NATO ally has also been facing a backlash for its reluctance to join US-led coalition efforts to eliminate ISIL, feeding speculation that this reluctance may be an indicator that some Turkish officials are ideologically close to the terrorist group."

Inside The Ancient Iraqi City Isis Destroyed

March 6, 2015

1425683646226.cached.jpg

"In razing the city of Nimrud to the ground, the jihadis have destroyed yet another relic of civilization. Its history must not be forgotten.

Archaeologists, scholars, and art lovers reeled in horror this week when Iraq’s tourism and antiquities ministry confirmed that ISIS jihadis had bulldozed the ancient city of Nimrud in northern Iraq. The location, known as Calah or Kalhu in the Bible, was the capital of the Neo-Assyrian Empire, which flourished under King Ashurnasirpal II in the First Millennium BC.

From his imposing palace on the banks of the Tigris, guarded by statues of winged bulls with human heads, Ashurnasirpal received tribute from vassal states and oversaw ruthless military campaigns that extended his rule from the Mediterranean throughout Asia Minor.

His private apartments and throne room were decorated with elaborate, brightly-painted bas-reliefs, carved into large slabs of gypsum and alabaster, which depicted the king’s wars and his hunts, his lavish feasts, and sacred rituals performed by palace eunuchs.

Many of the artworks and cuneiform tablets from Nimrud and nearby Nineveh—both excavated by the swashbuckling Austen Henry Layard in the mid 19th-century—ended up in the British Museum or New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. However, many antiquities remained at the original site, and the Iraqi government reconstructed the palace grounds several decades ago, according to The Guardian. Those ruins are all now presumably lost to history, a casualty of ISIS’s thirst for annihilation.

Before ISIS’s razing of Nimrud, the Met had created a stunning 3-D tour of the northwest palace, to show Ashurnasirpal’s stronghold in all its glory."

Chad and Niger begin Offensive against Boko Haram in Nigeria

Fred Lambert

March 8, 2015

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria, March 8 (UPI) -- Military forces from Chad and Niger began an offensive against militant group Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria on Sunday, according to officials from both countries.

The air and land attack is focused in Borno State, whose capital, Maiduguri, was rocked by five suicide bombings that killed at least 50 people on Saturday. The operation also follows Saturday's pledge of allegiance to the Islamic State by Boko Haram's leader, Abubakar Shekau.

Since 2009 Boko Haram was waged an insurgency against the Nigerian government in pursuit of an Islamic government in Nigeria. It has been blamed for countless attacks, including suicide bombings carried out by young females that experts speculate may have been kidnapped by the group.

The African Union pledged to create an international force to combat the group, agreeing in late January on a 7,500-strong force from Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Benin and Nigeria. On Friday the AU increased that number to over 8,000 troops.

I am not really sure why, maybe it's because I'm a historian or maybe I've been conditioned into feeling reverence towards historical artifacts, but that's where it get's me. All my life I've been steadily conditioned through television and by shifting authority figures to suppress empathy towards misery on TV.

Somebody goes hungry while somebody else is buried in an earthquake, another shot dead - by the police, and some war just broke out. I've been desensitised. If I can't smell it it isn't real, and it's definitely not important.

But show me two statues of the Buddha getting blown up by the Taliban, the bulldozing of Nimrud - and the remains of the Hanging Gardens, the American bombardment of Monte Cassino, or a cute little story about ducks just before the weather report and see me sobbing in front of the telly

(Sobbing, 'cause I can't/won't write that I really feel *deleted*; *deleted*; *explicit*; *illegal*).

ISIS’ Plan to Take Its Caliphate Worldwide

March 10, 2015

Nancy A. Youssef

"Teaming up with Boko Haram was just the start. ISIS is extending its reach around the planet. Here’s how they're doing it.

Boko Haram isn’t about to become a mere extension of ISIS, despite a purported pledge allegiance to the self-proclaimed Islamic State this weekend. Instead, ISIS is likely to offer resources, training, and its brand so the Nigerian terror group can create a distinct province within an Islamic caliphate, experts and U.S. officials told The Daily Beast. It’s a model that ISIS is increasingly adopting as it attempts to spread its reach around the planet.

Boko Haram leader Abubaker Shekau has embraced ISIS tactics and even the religious dress of its leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi in the last year. But Shekau is also a control freak, experts said. That means he’s unlikely to allow micromanaging from ISIS leaders thousands of miles away, U.S. officials told The Daily Beast.

Boko Haram “is reluctant to be subsumed to another group,” one government official explained to The Daily Beast. This isn’t the first time Shekau’s outfit has allegedly cast its lot with an outside terror organization. “We usually see them pledging allegiance when they need something or want something.”

And right now, they need something. After a series of recent setbacks, Boko Haram could use ISIS’s help finessing its messaging, developing its terror tactics and sowing fear in Nigeria by adopting the ISIS name. Such sharing only needs a few ISIS fighters offering guidance. Because of that, the most important immediate question in the face of the purported allegiance is whether ISIS fighters start to travel to Nigeria from places like Iraq, Syria, and Libya."

The ISIS-US Empire

March 11, 2015

Joachin Hagopian

11q_061.jpg

"Let’s be perfectly clear. The United States is not actually at war with ISIS. President Obama is simply waging “a fake war” against the Islamic State forces, putting on another propaganda show for mainstream media to keep his flock of American sheeple asleep in echo-chambered darkness. With a mere cursory review of recent historical events, one can readily realize that virtually everything Big Government tells us is happening in the world, you can bet is a boldface lie.

For over three and a half decades the US has been funding mostly Saudi stooges to do its dirty bidding in proxy wars around the world, beginning in Afghanistan in the 1980’s to fight the Soviets with the mujahedeen-turned al Qaeda that later would mutate into ISIS. Reagan and Bush senior gave Osama bin Laden his first terrorist gig. Our mercenary “Islamic extremists” for-hire were then on the CIA payroll employed in the Balkans during the 1990’s to kill fellow Moslem Serbs in Kosovo and Bosnia. For a long time now Washington’s been relying on the royal Saudi family as its chief headhunters supplying the United States with as needed terrorists on demand in order to wage its geopolitics chessboard game of global hegemony, otherwise known by the central banking cabal as global “Theft-R-Us.”

The Bush crime family were in bed with the bin Ladens long before 9/11 when that very morning George H W Bush on behalf of his Carlyle Group was wining and dining together with Osama’s brother at the posh DC Ritz Carlton while 19 box cutting Saudi stooges were acting as the neocon’s hired guns allegedly committing the greatest atrocity ever perpetrated on US soil in the history of this nation. And in the 9/11 immediate aftermath while only birds were flying the not-so-friendly skies above America, there was but one exception and that was the Air Force escort given the bin Ladens flying safely back home to their “Terrorists-R-Us” mecca called Saudi Arabia. On 9/11 the Zionist Israeli Mossad, Saudi intelligence and the Bush-Cheney neocons were busily pulling the trigger murdering near 3000 Americans in cold blood as the most deadly, most heinous crime in US history. If you’re awake enough to recognize this ugly truth as cold hard fact, then it’s certainly not a stretch to see the truth behind this latest US created hoax called ISIS."

CIA: US does not want to see Assad fall

March 14, 2015

Spy agency chief says Washington fears Islamic State and other extremists could take over Syria

"By Daniel De Luce for Times of Israel

AFP — CIA Director John Brennan said Friday the United States does not want to see a chaotic collapse of the Syrian regime as it could open the way to Islamist extremists taking power.

The spy agency chief said Washington had reason to worry about who might replace President Bashar Assad if his government fell, given the rise of the Islamic State group and other jihadists in Syria.

“I think that’s a legitimate concern,” Brennan said when asked if the US government feared who might succeed Assad.

Speaking at an event at the Council on Foreign Relations, he said that “extremist elements” including the IS group and Al-Qaeda veterans are “ascendant right now” in some parts of Syria.

“The last thing we want to do is allow them to march into Damascus.”

“That’s why it’s important to bolster those forces within the Syrian opposition that are not extremists,” Brennan said.

The US military is funding the training and arming of “moderate” Syrian rebel forces but the effort is only now getting off the ground.

Washington’s stance is that Assad should have no role in Syria’s future but President Barack Obama’s administration and other governments wanted to see a political solution that would ensure a representative government, he said.

“None of us, Russia, the United States, coalition, and regional states, wants to see a collapse of the government and political institutions in Damascus,” Brennan said.

IS exploits digital media"

Thousands Crowd Brazil's Streets: Demand Military Intervention & Rousseff Resignation, Impeachment

March 15, 2015

Tyler Durden

"It appears the 'people' are growing more and more dissatisfied with their corrupt and greedy leaders across the world. As we noted recently, Brazil's economy is implodingconsumer sentiment is at record lows, and with the Petrobras scandal providing a glimpse at just how deep the corruption might go, Brazilians are revolting. Hundreds of thousands are crowding the streets in several regional Brazilian capitals, dominated ironically by the middle and upper classes. Demands for "Dilma Out" and "Impeach Dilma" are also interspersed with calls for a quasi-coup and "military intervention."

Putin's Gambit: Iskander Missiles Headed to Kaliningrad

March 18, 2015

288478_5_.jpg

" Russia plans to station state-of-the art missiles in its westernmost Baltic exclave and deploy nuclear-capable bombers to Crimea as part of massive war games to showcase its resurgent military power amid bitter tensions with the West over Ukraine.

The Russian military exercises this week range from the Arctic to the Pacific Ocean and involve tens of thousands of troops, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

The Iskander missiles will be sent to the Kaliningrad region that borders NATO members Poland and Lithuania as part of the maneuvers, said a Defense Ministry official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to comment publicly.

The official also said Russia will deploy long-range, nuclear-capable Tu-22M3 bombers to Crimea, the Black Sea peninsula that Russia annexed from Ukraine a year ago."

Saudi Arabia starts bombing Yemen - envoy

Published time: March 25, 2015 23:49

Breaking news

breaking_news.si.gif

Saudi Arabian forces, joined by nine other countries, have launched a military operation in Yemen against Shiite Houthi rebels, the Saudi ambassador to the US said. The offensive, which started with airstrikes, will also involve “other military assets.”

According to Ambassador Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, the military operation in Yemen started at 7 p.m. EST (11 p.m. GMT). The US is not participating in the operation, the envoy stressed.

Al Arabiya reported that warplanes of the Royal Saudi Air Force bombed positions of Yemen’s Houthi militia, targeting their air defenses.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait issued a joint statement saying that they “decided to repel Houthi militias, Al-Qaeda and ISIS (Islamic State) in the country.” The Gulf states said they were responding to a “major threat” to the stability of the region, saying that their cause is to “repel Houthi aggression” in Yemen.

Iran-backed rebels loot Yemen files about U.S. spy operations

March 25, 2015

"Secret files held by Yemeni security forces that contain details of American intelligence operations in the country have been looted by Iran-backed militia leaders, exposing names of confidential informants and plans for U.S.-backed counter-terrorism strikes, U.S. officials say.

U.S. intelligence officials believe additional files were handed directly to Iranian advisors by Yemeni officials who have sided with the Houthi militias that seized control of Sana, the capital, in September, which led the U.S.-backed president to flee to Aden.

For American intelligence networks in Yemen, the damage has been severe. Until recently, U.S. forces deployed in Yemen had worked closely with President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi’s government to track and kill Al Qaeda operatives, and President Obama had hailed Yemen last fall as a model for counter-terrorism operations elsewhere."

US Airstrikes, Coupled with Iran-backed Militias and Iraqi Forces, Target ISIS in Tikrit

March 26, 2015

Jon Queally

US military now involved in two air wars in the Middle East, not to mention more widespread drone actions

"Following earlier indications that such attacks were likely, the U.S. military bombarded targets in the Iraqi city of Tikrit overnight as it took a commanding role in an ongoing offensive against Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) militants that has so far been spearheaded by Iraqi forces and Shi'ite militias which receive direct backing and guidance from the Iranian military.

"These strikes are intended to destroy ISIL strongholds with precision, thereby saving innocent Iraqi lives while minimizing collateral damage to infrastructure," said Lt. Gen. James L. Terry of U.S. Central Command as he confirmed the bombing effort late on Wednesday. "This will further enable Iraqi forces under Iraqi command to maneuver and defeat ISIL in the vicinity of Tikrit."

The Washington Post reports:

Pentagon officials said that the Iraqi government had requested the assistance as the
fight for Tikrit
stalled as it moved into its fourth week. They said initial targeting for the strikes will be aided by U.S.-led coalition surveillance aircraft that recently began flying over the city, 110 miles northwest of Baghdad.

The fight for Tikrit is considered a crucial test for larger future objectives, including Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, which has been the symbol and center of Islamic State power in Iraq since the militants took it last summer."

having lived in sub Saharan Africa i laugh when reading the word intelligence connected to such matters

the western intelligence gathering techniques are futile in the African environment, whilst (double crossing) informants are abundant (maybe Egypt, South Africa and once Upon a time Lybia escape this Stereotype Somewhat)

Boy you have really been around a lot T - you must have had a really interesting life.  Makes my handful of trips overseas look pretty sad and I have never had the opportunity to live in another country.  Maybe in the future I will get to travel and see/experience all this wonderful stuff around the world as much as I want - or I'll be dead to this incarnation, one or the other.

Iranian Nuke Negotiator Aide Defects In Switzerland – Tells Swiss Authorities U.S. Team Working On Behalf Of Iran…

March 29, 2015

"(Via UK Telegraph) A close media aide to Hassan Rouhani, the Iranian president, has sought political asylum in Switzerland after travelling to Lausanne to cover the nuclear talks between Tehran and the West.

Amir Hossein Motaghi, who managed public relations for Mr Rouhani during his 2013 election campaign, was said by Iranian news agencies to have quit his job at the Iran Student Correspondents Association (ISCA)

[…]  In his television interview, Mr Mottaghi also gave succour to western critics of the proposed nuclear deal, which has seen the White House pursue a more conciliatory line with Tehran than some of America’s European allies in the negotiating team, comprising the five permanent members of the UN security council and Germany."

Makes me wonder what part Obama's appointed advisor Ms.Valerie Jarrett, dual citizen Iran/US, might have to do with this.  However, it surely is no surprise to anyone that he's working w/Iran, unless we're not paying attention that is. Seems to me, if one has them, they all should, and to our knowledge, the US is the only country that has actually used them as a weapon against another country, so shouldn't it follow, that perhaps we shouldn't have them either?

China building a ‘great wall of sand’ in South China Sea– US Navy

March 31, 2015

"The US has accused Beijing of "unprecedented land reclamation," claiming China is "creating a great wall of sand" over four square kilometers, in the disputed area in the South China Sea. The move has caused concerns over China’s territorial intentions.

Speaking at a naval conference in Australia, US Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Harry Harris Jr. said China has been “pumping sand on to live coral reefs — some of them submerged — and paving over them with concrete. China has now created over 4 square kilometers (1.5 square miles) of artificial landmass."

"But what's really drawing a lot of concern in the here and now is the unprecedented land reclamation currently being conducted by China," Harris said.

Harris reminded that the region is known for its beautiful natural islands, but "in sharp contrast, China is creating a great wall of sand with dredges and bulldozers over the course of months."

Submerged reefs in the Spratlys archipelago have been turned into artificial islands with buildings, wharves and runways.

While China claims a vast majority of the sea, it still has territorial disputes with the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, Brunei, and Malaysia. Earlier this month Vietnam and the Philippines filed a diplomatic protest with Beijing."

Mideast powers trade blame as Yemen teeters

March 31, 2015

By Jamal al-Jabiri

"Sanaa (AFP) - Regional rivals Saudi Arabia and Iran traded accusations Tuesday over the escalating conflict in Yemen, which the UN rights chief warned was on the brink of "total collapse".

Aid groups warned of a humanitarian crisis unfolding with air and sea blockades making it impossible to send desperately needed assistance as casualties mount.

In the heaviest raids yet of the six-day Saudi-led air war against Shiite Huthi rebels, explosions lit up the skies over Sanaa on Monday night and rocked other parts of the country on Tuesday.

Amnesty International accused the Saudi-led coalition of "turning a blind eye to civilian deaths" as it reported four children were among six burned to death in strikes on Ibb, in central Yemen."

Poroshenko: ”Take Donbass”. Putin: ”Have you Gone Mad? I don’t Need Donbass. If you don’t Need it, Announce its Independence”
by South Front
April 7, 2015

Transcript
"Self-styled Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has proposed Vladimir Putin to ”include Donbass” in the territory of the Russian Federation, Forbes reported on 6 April. The offer was made during the Normandy Four talks in Minsk on 11 and 12 February.

Poroshenko: ”Take Donbass”. Putin: ”Have you gone mad? I don’t need Donbass. If you don’t need it, announce its independence”.
This is the behavior of an invader. All year we heard about Russian aggression, Russian tanks, Russian troops, Russian invasion. And what now? This fear-mongering by Obama’s administration and his little friend Poroshenko was simply the stuff of their paranoid nightmares."

As the world prepares to mark the 70th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany, Ukraine’s lawmakers have vowed to pass a “decommunization” law banning Soviet Union “symbols and propaganda”, equating the beliefs of the victors with Nazi ideology. Kiev Justice Minister Pavel Petrenko believes the present parliament has sufficient political will and votes to effectively ban communist ideology in Ukraine. The government of the country which communists have created is planning to ban communism. This isn’t a circus act, it’s real Kiev policy."

US, Saudis Target Internet Access in Yemen

April 6, 2015

21st Century Wire

"When any illegal war of aggression is taking place, it is essential to cut-off all communication routes to the rest of the world.

In past wars of aggression, the US has first targeted TV stations and radio communications bases, but in the 21st century, targeting internet access is essential in order to keep real information from circulating between the target nation and the outside world, but also between citizens attempting to coordinate inside the target nation.

Aden is the access point for one of only two submarine fiber optic cables which connect Yemen to the rest of the world. That cable connects Yemen to the US AFRICOM-controlled client state ofDjibouti across the Gulf of Aden in east Africa, home of one of the Pentagon’s largest off-shore military bases. It has gone dark for the last three days and counting. This would indicate direct interference or sabotage.

Yemen is in turmoil: The Arab state is now at the heart of a regional conflict pitting a long-standing rebellion against an enfeebled Saudi-backed government.

The factions are now battling over the southern coastal city of Aden, which the country’s president was forced to abandon last week. And the country’s Internet connectivity is one of the victims of the fighting. Aden is the access point for one of only two submarine cables that connects Yemen to the global Internet — and researchers noted two major disruptions where that cable, which connects Yemen to Djibouti, appears to have gone dark in the last two days.

But Yemen isn’t alone. When conflict strikes, Internet access is often an early casualty — cutting off communications for civilians when they need it the most."

ADL Creates Trail to Media Espionage Ring

Posted by Gordon Duff, Senior Editor on April 5, 2015

Uncovered: Links between the ADL, Israeli intelligence and Press TV, a carefully staged attack meant to restore the credibility of a "burned" asset

11q_185.jpg

…by  Gordon Duff, Senior Editor

Abe-Foxman-e1392068364389-1024x713-320x2

Abe is gone…but the ADL game remains the same

It is the assessment of counter-intelligence specialists affiliated with VT that the ADL has just published an attack on Iran’s Press TV in an attempt to cover for what appears to be an intelligence penetration of that publication by the Israeli security services.

This “cover and deception” operation contains key flaws.  We searched for inclusion in the ADL “hit list” which I always head, inclusion of writers now virtually controlling Press TV that we have identified as potential Israeli agents.  Their names were not included, a huge error by the ADL and Israeli intelligence.

Press TV provides travel money and stipends to authors who are willing to follow their now heavily censored “party line.”  Other Press organizations in Iran are still well run and uncensored, unlike Press TV which, frankly, seems to be controlled out of Tel Aviv.

We have identified a number of instances where Press TV has been complicit in psychological warfare operations against Iraq and Syria on behalf of Israel or perhaps Saudi Arabia.  We identify one in this article and the havoc it caused.

Ukraine “Disappears” Opponents of the Kiev Regime. Abductions of Independent Journalists

April 9, 2015

By Eric Zuesse

"In Odessa — the same city where the Ukrainian civil war started on 2 May 2014 with a massacre of opponents that had been carefully planned by a team connected to the U.S. White House — there are reported to be two bloggers for the “Voice of Odessa” political site who were seized by the Security Bureau of Ukraine on April 7th, and whose “whereabouts are unknown.” This report appeared in the local Odessa News.

The “Voice of Odessa” site was formed right after the massacre, in order to get an independent investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators of that massacre, in which officially 46 people were burned, shot and clubbed to death, but unofficial estimates run over 200, all victims who have not been heard from since, and some of whom had allegedly even been abducted from hospitals after the massacre.

This report’s translated headline reads “SBU Detained Activists at Kulikov Field.”  Kulikov Field is the square or plaza in front of the former Odessa Trade Unions Building, which is the building where the massacre-victims, who had been printing and distributing pamphlets opposing the newly installed government, were murdered, by Right Sector troops in plain clothes, and also by mercenaries in the private army of Ukrainian oligarch Ihor Kolomoysky, who had allegedly announced in advance that he would pay $5,000 per corpse. (There has been no reported follow-up, regarding whether he actually paid everyone who participated, or how he paid them.)"
