Study Shows The Therapeutic Effects of Cannabis on Autistic Children

Marco Torres

June 9, 2014

"A new study on how marijuana affects autism will undoubtedly fuel the flames of the debate over medical cannabis, particularly given its implications on the uncharted use of pot in kids for medical conditions.

The study on how marijuana affects autism is not the first to suggestcannabinoids can be helpful not only to older people with conditions like cancer, glaucoma, and even AIDS, but younger people who we’ve spent decades trying to “protect” from the supposed deleterious effects of weed.

Ben Whalley and colleagues at the Center for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics, University of Reading, using mouse models of epilepsy, established safety and showed that CBD and another cannabinoid, CBDV, exert anti-seizure and anti-inflammatory effects. This research came to the attention of families in the US who had loved ones with epilepsy.

That marijuana affects autism in a possibly therapeutic way adds to the chorus of parents of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) who have suggested the mild sedative can supplement or even negate the need for stimulant and speed-like drugs commonly used to treat the condition. (Such as Ritalin, Adderall, or any of its high-potency brethren.)

While some apply preconceptions that marijuana exacerbates ADHD almost all California cannabinologists

believe cannabis and cannabinoids have substantially improved the lives of ADHD sufferers, and with less negative side effects than common stimulant drug ADHD treatments.

Parents high-five as NC House passes bill allowing cannabis oil

Posted: Jun 19, 2014 1:55 PM EDT Updated: Jun 19, 2014 6:39 PM EDT
by WNCN Staff

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Parents of impacted children high-fived in the gallery Thursday as the North Carolina House approved a measure legalizing oil manufactured from a marijuana plant to treat people who suffer from a severe form of epilepsy.

The measure now moves to the Senate for approval.

The bill would allow cannabidiol extract from a medical marijuana plant to be sold and used used in the state to treat intractable epilepsy, a seizure disorder unresponsive to three or more treatment options. It would also prohibit doctors from being prosecuted for dispensing the medicine and would direct universities to research it.

<snip>

The marijuana extract under the bill would consist of less than .3 percent of tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive chemical found in a marijuana plant. It would include at least 10 percent cannabidiol by weight, a chemical compound in the marijuana plant more commonly used for medical treatments for people with epilepsy and Parkinson's disease.

"It would make a drug addict very disappointed if they got a hold of it," McElraft said.

Colorado has already started using a form of CBD oil similar to the one proposed in the state, and it looks like cough syrup, McElraft said.

To use the oil, a person or caregiver would have to register for a compassionate use registration card. The cardholder would have to be 18 years old.

The patient would have to be a North Carolina resident and be examined by a neurologist who recommends hemp extract oil. The patient would also have to pay $50 to the Department of Health and Human Services, apply for a permit and submit their contact information to a government database for patients who are using the hemp oil for medicinal purposes. The database would be accessible to law enforcement agencies.

Study: Legalizing Medical Marijuana Strongly Correlates to Reductions in Opioid Overdose Deaths

study published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association Internal Medicine has revealed some especially interesting findings – states that legalized medical marijuana have experienced a mean 25% reduction in annual prescription opioid overdose deaths

As has been very well documented, we’re in the midst of an opioid epidemic. David Kroll at Forbes recently brought to light that hydrocodone (as in Vicodin®) is now the most-prescribed drug in the United States – ahead of thyroid medications, blood pressure medications, and cholesterol medications. In fact, the United States consumes 80% of the pain pills in the World, including 99% of the hydrocodone. Think about that for a minute. . . Predictably, deaths from opioid overdoses have been on the rise, increasing 5-fold for women and 3.6-fold for menover the past decade. A worthy risk, you assume, considering how widespread diagnoses of chronic pain are. But consider that “clinical trials that evaluate long-term efficacy of opioids are lacking,” and that “no study has shown clinically significant (> 50% pain reduction) and sustained pain relief with opioids over several months and years,” and you’ll start seriously questioning why doctors are chronically prescribing risky and poorly-effective medications like prescription opioid analgesics.

Never thought I would see this happen in Australia, brilliant news, well done to all whom signed change.org petition

THE NSW government plans to legalise the possession and use of cannabis for medicinal purposes.

The Coalition party room backed the plans on Tuesday morning and the details will be revealed at Parliamentary question time.

Sources described the changes as “groundbreaking”.

Well one of my favorite topics.. I have used maryjane or some 35 years with little side effects. A little short term memory lose...I am sure my kids got spanked less and I was a healthier mother, it soothes aching bones, and excellent for stomache disorders and quite easily a stress reliever. something like over 400 disorders it helps with I am told.

I do bless anything I smoke with sacred water and ask the spirits to remove any harmful aspects but honestly like Triton says, the best is when you grow it yourself or have organic source.

Marijuana Compound May Offer Treatment for Alzheimer's Disease, Study Suggests

Extremely low levels of the compound in marijuana known as delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, may slow or halt the progression of Alzheimer's disease, a recent study from neuroscientists at the University of South Florida shows.

Findings from the experiments, using a cellular model of Alzheimer's disease, were reported online in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.

Researchers from the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer's Institute showed that extremely low doses of THC reduce the production of amyloid beta, found in a soluble form in most aging brains, and prevent abnormal accumulation of this protein -- a process considered one of the pathological hallmarks evident early in the memory-robbing disease. These low concentrations of THC also selectively enhanced mitochondrial function, which is needed to help supply energy, transmit signals, and maintain a healthy brain.

"THC is known to be a potent antioxidant with neuroprotective properties, but this is the first report that the compound directly affects Alzheimer's pathology by decreasing amyloid beta levels, inhibiting its aggregation, and enhancing mitochondrial function," said study lead author Chuanhai Cao, PhD and a neuroscientist at the Byrd Alzheimer's Institute and the USF College of Pharmacy.

Man who treated stage III COPD with cannabis off all meds and back to work full time

Back in April of 2014, this author presented an article about how cannabis is very helpful for COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). The story of Jeff Waters, diagnosed with stage III COPD at the age of 36, was featured in that article. Some may wonder how he's doing now.

First a quick review of what COPD is. It's a strange name that describes different lung problems that aren't cancerous but very debilitating. Those you see carting around oxygen tanks that feed into their nostrils have some form of COPD. And the prognosis from mainstream medicine is that it only gets worse. There's no cure in sight from Big Pharma.

Yet all sorts of prescriptions are given to purportedly give some relief. Their side effects are what put Jeff into the hospital under life support at one time.

Jeff was on 15 pharmaceuticals including COPD drugs, high blood pressure meds and drugs for depression, anxiety, aggression, high cholesterol, insomnia and pain. Acute upper respiratory disease is a black box warning on some of them.

After spending 28 days in intensive care going in and out of a coma from a reaction to one of those drugs, Jeff decided to find a better way to handle his COPD than what the medical monopoly and Big Pharma offered.

I think this thread on cannabis and cancer also needs to be connected here.

http://forums.thechaniproject.com/topic/6167-compound-found-in-marijuana-shown-to-turn-off-cancer/

All in all the information compiled in these cancer-threads is quite astounding. I really wish our co-inhabitants of this place would wake up and - if nothing else - pick some qualified leaders for a change. It is really frustrating when human societies legislate against nature.

Science Shows Marijuana Can Help Kill Tumors, Federal Government Admits

The information war about marijuana may have turned a new page with the federal government’s acknowledgment of a recent study that found the plant can significantly reduce aggressive types of brain tumors when combined with radiation treatment, endorsing what medicinal marijuana advocates have long affirmed as its healing properties.

A team of researchers from St. George’s University of London recorded reductions in high-grade glioma masses — a deadly form of brain cancer — in mice. The mice’s tumors shrank after they were exposed to radiation in tandem with two marijuana compounds: THC, which creates the “high feeling,” and CBD, which has no psychoactive side effects. In their report, the researchers said that both cannabinoids made tumors more receptive to the radiation treatment, creating what lead author Dr. Wai Lui described to HuffPost as a “triple threat” approach.

Australia may legalize medical marijuana in August

A Senate committee representing all Australia’s major parties is preparing a Regulator of Medicinal Cannabis Bill to legalize medical marijuana, despite warnings of regulatory complications with both Australian and international law, a report says.

The committee includes the Coalition (the Liberal Party, the National Party, the Northern Territory Country Liberal Party, and Queensland Liberal branch the Liberal National Party), the Labor Party and crossbench senators. They will “strongly recommend” parliament pass a cross-party bill setting up a medical marijuana regulator, the Sydney Morning Herald reports, citing Fairfax Media sources close to the legislation debate.

Today, over two-thirds of Australians support the idea of medical marijuana use and only 9 percent oppose it, a recent survey by Palliative Care Australia has found.

U.S. just admitted that cannabis DOES kill cancer cells

Conspiracy theorists have been saying it all along – but cannabis does apparently kill cancer cells.

That’s according to the US government, which has added a page on the use of cannabis and cannabinoids to their official cancer advice website.
The National Cancer Institute, part of the US Department of Health, now advises that ‘cannabinoids may be useful in treating the side effects of cancer and cancer treatment’ by smoking, eating it in baked products, drinking herbal teas or even spraying it under the tongue.

US Federal Ban on Medical Marijuana Silently Lifted

Posted By: Lymerick
Date: Thursday, 24-Dec-2015 19:14:19

December 25, 2015

One of the bills secretly tucked into the 1,603-page $1.1 Trillion Spending Bill is the federal government’s lifting of the decades old ban on medical marijuana.

This should pave the way for the removal of marijuana restrictions in other countries, too.

Not to spoil the fun, but the other bill that’s been secretly passed alongside the spending bill is CISA, giving them the legal framework to continue metadata gathering on every US citizen’s internet activities.

CISA Quietly Passed by Congress thru Sleight of Hand

There could be a bigger
picture
that must be considered here. We will discuss them in the next few days. In the meantime, do enjoy the holidays.

Mabuhay, Marijuana!

Congress quietly ends federal government’s ban on medical marijuana

Only Monsters Would Keep this ‘Illegal’ The Astonishing Effects of Cannabis in Under 90 Seconds

As a parent watching your child suffer with uncontrollable bouts of epileptic seizures, is there anything you wouldn’t do to make it stop? Would asinine state laws based on primitive mentalities prevent you from giving your child an effective treatment?

“My goal for him is to hear his voice…to hear him talk. We just want him to be happy,” says one parent in this heart-wrenching video.

A particular strain of cannabis oil is showing remarkable benefits for children with severe epilepsy. This plant extract, manufactured under laboratory conditions, is high in CBD (cannabidiol)—a non-psychoactive ingredient—and low in THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). It does not get kids high.

Dad Arrested, Two-Year-Old Daughter Taken, For Successfully Treating Her Cancer With Cannabis Oil     :angry2:

As cannabis is taken more seriously as a medicine and a treatment, more people are taking a chance and using it as a treatment for terminal illnesses. This treatment has had overwhelmingly positive results for countless people who had no other hope of recovery. Every day more stories and scientific studies are appearing from all over the world where people of all ages, even young children, are cured of life-threatening illnesses with cannabis oil.

More often than not, these patients face legal penalties and even jail time for trying to better their lives. In the case of parents with children who have terminal illnesses, they are forced to break laws to get their kids the treatment that they need.

The father of a 2-year-old with late-stage cancer is facing jail time for using cannabis oil in an attempt to ease his daughter’s suffering.

Adam Koessler of Queensland, Australia is one of these parents who is facing potential prison time for attempting to save his child’s life with cannabis oil. Koessler’s 2-year-old daughter was diagnosed with stage-4 neuroblastoma; and when chemo was not working, he began giving her doses of cannabis oil after reading about how well it did for other people. Instantly he noticed remarkable results and an extreme improvement in her condition.

Development of Marijuana Tracking Technology

Concerning the development of marijuana tracking technology.
SESSION: 2018 Regular Session
SUBJECTS: Crimes, Corrections, & Enforcement Higher Education Liquor, Tobacco, & Marijuana
The bill requires the institute of cannabis research at Colorado state university - Pueblo (institute) to develop marijuana tracking technology (technology). The technology must include an agent that is applied to a marijuana plant, marijuana product, industrial hemp, or industrial hemp product and then scanned by a device. The scan, at a minimum, would indicate whether the marijuana or hemp was cultivated, manufactured, or sold by a licensed marijuana business or registered hemp cultivator. The institute shall select a vendor to develop the technology. After the technology is developed, the state licensing authority must be satisfied that the technology provides an effective means of tracking marijuana. After the state licensing authority determines the technology is an effective means of tracking marijuana, it shall promulgate rules that require the technology to be used by licensed marijuana businesses, and the commissioner of the department of agriculture shall promulgate rules that require registered industrial hemp cultivators to use the technology. The technology that scans the marijuana must be made available to law enforcement and the department of revenue.

The bill clarifies that the gray and black market marijuana enforcement grant program could award grants to law enforcement agencies to purchase the marijuana scanning technology.

First, legalize it, then genetically modify it-Monsanto, then control and tax it.  Yep gov't has to fix everything and not for our benefit, for theirs.  I object!

Daily Dose Of Cannabis May Protect And Heal The Brain From Effects Of Aging

Despite your average Shaggy and Scooby-style stereotypes, researchers believe that cannabis could actually help to sharpen our minds later in life.

Researchers at the University of Bonn and Hebrew University have discovered that low, regular doses of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), one of the main active ingredients or cannabinoids found in marijuana, may help to keep our brains from 'slowing down' as we get older. Published today in the journal Nature Medicine, the German study revealed that while younger mice suffered a performance drop under the influence of THC, the psychoactive chemical gave older mice a considerable performance boost, even putting them on par with younger mice who'd abstained.

To test the chemical's effect on brains of different ages, researchers put mice that were two months, one year, and 18 months old on a daily regimen of THC over the course of a month. The mice were then tested on their abilities to recognize familiar objects, and to navigate a water maze in known and new configurations.

CBD Vs. THC – Battle of the Two Top CannabinoidsShare

At the time of writing, there are well over 100 identified compounds in the marijuana plant. Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the two most abundant, and also the two best-known compounds. Although the title of the article suggests that we are trying to analyze which one is ‘better,’ the truth is, there is no ‘right’ answer to that particular question, because both have their benefits.

More pertinently, it is tough to compare the two because while they may come from the same plant, CBD and THC are very different. The most obvious difference is the fact that THC provides you with a ‘high,’ whereas CBD does not. Also, although you can get CBD products made from the marijuana plant, legal issues mean that sellers tend to extract their CBD from the industrial hemp plant.

Hemp & Cannabis – What’s the Difference & What Can They Do for The Body?

When cannabis is grown for medicinal purposes, the buds (flowers) and leaves of the female plant are cured to create marijuana. While hemp is in the same genus, it is differentiated by the growing method. Marijuana is grown so that the plant has larger buds and a greater level of psychoactive effects, while hemp is grown for fiber material, which means smaller buds. Sellers of both weed and hemp products extract various compounds from the plants and sell them as medicinal therapies.

Ultimately, the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is the reason why marijuana is such an effective medicine. The ECS is controlled by endocannabinoids, which influence an enormous amount of vital functions including pain, appetite, sleep and much more. That’s why you can use both CBD or THC to help with chronic pain, insomnia or wasting diseases.
