West Virginia train derailment sends oil tanker into river

Feb. 16, 2015

520661_630x354.jpg

"A train carrying more than 100 tankers of crude oil derailed in southern West Virginia on Monday, sending at least one into the Kanawha River, igniting at least 14 tankers and sparking a house fire, officials said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. Nearby residents were told to evacuate as a state emergency response and environmental officials headed to the scene about 30 miles southeast of Charleston.

The state was under a winter storm warning and getting heavy snowfall at times, with as much as 5 inches in some places. It's not clear if the weather had anything to do with the derailment, which occurred about 1:20 EST along a flat stretch of rail.

Public Safety spokesman Lawrence Messina said responders at the scene reported one tanker and possibly another went into the river. Messina said local emergency responders were having trouble getting to the house that caught fire."

Air Canada plane short of runway, hit antenna array before crash: safety board

March 29. 2015

By Aly Thomson and Keith Doucette, The Canadian Press

"HALIFAX - An Air Canada plane that crashed at the Halifax airport was about 335 metres short of the runway before it hit an antenna array, which ripped off its main landing gear, the Transportation Safety Board said Sunday.

The aircraft also lost one of its two engines and left a trail of debris as it skidded along the asphalt for another 335 metres early Sunday morning before it came to a stop, said Mike Cunningham, the agency's regional manager of air investigations.

"Obviously, it's too early to draw any conclusions about this occurrence. These things are always very complex," Cunningham told a news conference.

"This type of event is on the TSB's watch list and so it's a very great concern to us and we'll be putting our maximum effort into determining what happened."

ok then, hmmm 335 meters short of the runway. is about 1,000 Feet,  one has to presume the pilots have flown in and out of there before, but all of a sudden, they are going to try to land 1,000 ft short?  Interesting!  Beginning to wonder if there isn't some sort of unexpected magnetic anomaly happening. All these plane crashes are taking place in the N.Hemisphere.  For all we know, perhaps that is why they can't find MH 370, perhaps it crashed in the N.Hemisphere too, and not where they search for it. (how about in China even?) I found 2 more plane crashes that we missed later last year, one in October, one in November, And both crashed in the N. Hemi. also.   Didn't they have to repaint the runway lines in Tampa, Florida a couple years ago, because all of a sudden they were not pointing in the correct direction?  random thoughts here again

At least 56 dead as Russian trawler with 132 aboard sinks in Sea of Okhotsk
RT

Published time: April 01, 2015 22:15
Edited time: April 02, 2015 14:35

A rescue mission to find survivors from the Dalniy Vostok fishing trawler, which sank in the Sea of Okhotsk off the Kamchatka Peninsula, will continue through the night. Fifty-six people are confirmed dead, while 63 were rescued from the freezing waters.

One hundred and thirty-two people were confirmed to have been aboard the fishing vessel, when it sank. Of those, 117 have been accounted for, according to TASS. Around 10 of the survivors are in a critical condition, suffering from hypothermia.

The head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Vladimir Puchkov, says the rescue mission to try and find survivors from the Dalniy Vostok should continue through the night.

“We will continue the rescue operation in the area where the trawler went down when night falls at full capacity,” said Puchkov, according to Interfax.

He added that 26 vessels are currently at the scene and helping with the rescue operation. Strong winds have hampered the rescue mission, with helicopters unable to reach the area where the vessel sank. One chopper took off from Petropavlovsk Kamchatka, but was forced to return to the city of Magadan.

Thirty-two people have been transferred to the Andromeda vessel from the Dalniy Vostok trawler.

“Fishing boats are currently lining up around the Andromeda to transfer those rescued from the sea, which includes both survivors and those who have passed away,” a source told TASS.

Of the 132 crew members aboard the Dalniy Vostok, 78 are Russians and 54 are other nationals, including from Myanmar, Vanuatu, Latvia and Ukraine.

I hope you don't think i am being picky K , but this quote reads like Intel , to me .

There are far too many numbers that just don't make sense , although i can read a 9/11 into this from just the first few lines . Anyway , the sea of Okhotsk is a renowned area for " things that happen " as in a glassed out sea amongst others . & Andromeda i vey ,  For those that follow my thoughts this will make sense to you .

Cheers  ;D

Amtrak train derails in Philadelphia.

May 12, 2015

7 are now confirmed deceased, hundreds injured, and it is a real mess.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/13/us/philadelphia-amtrak-train-derailment/index.html

Editing to add to this.  Apparently, about 20 minutes before this train derailed, a commuter train was hit w/a projectile of some sort, that broke the window out of the engine pulling the train. In the same area.  Anyone smelling fish here? Trains are controlled by computers, aren't they? Would an engineer, knowingly hit a stretch of tracks at 100mph, that is only good for 50mph, on purpose? I seriously doubt it.

Do they need us to put our train derailment research skills to use, breezy?

;)

Oh, and I'd pretty much say that is as likely as that runaway train in Canada rolling up hill all by itself! And after it had caught fire earlier in the day just sitting on the tracks.

At Least 13 Cars Off Tracks In Hazelwood Train Derailment

May 14, 2015

Yesterday Philadelphia  today Pittsburgh, Pa.

"HAZELWOOD (KDKA) – Cleanup is underway in Hazelwood after 13 cars jumped the train tracks in the Hazelwood area of Pittsburgh Thursday morning.

According to emergency dispatchers, the freight train derailed in the 4100-block of Second Avenue around 10 a.m.

The Allegheny Railroad train was negotiating an “S bend” when it derailed.

“Just a loud bang is about all it was. They were going so slow, it really did make a lot of difference,” said a witness who only wanted to be identified as John. “I’m glad it wasn’t the tanker at the end of the train.”

At least 13 cars are believed to have derailed. Fortunately, all of the derailed cars were empty.

“The train was going approximately 10 mph. It wasn’t carrying anything, all the cars were empty, no Hazmat materials, no materials at all. That was confirmed by police and Hazmat. The railroad folks have equipment on the way to upright the cars and they should be here later this afternoon or early this evening. They’ll be working overnight to upright the cars,” Pittsburgh Director of Operations Guy Costa said.

There are no reported injuries and no evacuations were necessary."

However, on May 8, 2015, came this warning from the FBI

FBI Warns of Train Derailment Threat

May 8, 2015

Jason Ryan

"Devices that could be used by terrorists to derail trains are being stolen from rail facilities around the country, the FBI warned today.

Nine derailers, a piece of railroad equipment used to derail train cars for safety purposes in railyards have been stolen recently, sources said, citing the FBI's weekly intelligence bulletin.

The theft of these items is strange since they are of little use outside of the rail industry, according to the bulletin.

Railroads have been targeted in the past by terrorists, the bulletin said.

It specifically mentioned the Oct. 1995 derailment of an Amtrak train in Hyder, Ariz. In that incident, one person was killed and 78 were injured when parts of the track were sabotaged. The FBI located a derail 50 miles from Hyder.

The bulletin does not mention a specific threat, and the FBI has no indication the derail thefts are related to terrorism. The bulletin is distributed weekly to 18,000 state and local law enforcement agencies around the United States.

The bureau has also warned in the past that railways and other mass conveyances could be terrorist targets."

Lawyer: Amtrak Engineer Has ‘No Recollection’ Of Crash
May 14, 2015

"PHILADELPHIA (CBSDC/AP) — The Amtrak train that crashed in Philadelphia, killing at least seven people, was hurtling at 106 mph before it ran off the rails along a sharp curve where the speed limit drops to just 50 mph, federal investigators said Wednesday.
The engineer applied the emergency brakes moments before the crash but slowed the train to only 102 mph by the time the locomotive’s black box stopped recording data, said Robert Sumwalt, of the National Transportation Safety Board. The speed limit just before the bend is 80 mph, he said.
The engineer, whose name was not released, refused to give a statement to law enforcement and left a police precinct with a lawyer, police said. Sumwalt said federal accident investigators want to talk to him but will give him a day or two to recover from the shock of the accident."

Pilot Killed In Small Plane Crash Near Castro Valley

May 22, 2015

"CASTRO VALLEY (CBS SF) — A man is dead after a plane crashed in rural Alameda County Thursday morning, according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and the Santa Clara County Airports administration.

Acting Director of Santa Clara County Airports Eric Peterson said investigators found the plane at about 8:30 a.m.

Alameda County Sheriff’s Sgt. J.D. Nelson identified the location as a rural area of hills and trees between Pleasanton, Dublin, Castro Valley and Hayward, near Rowell Ranch Rodeo. Nelson said there are no homes close by and so it’s likely no one heard the crash.

Nelson said the crash started a small grass fire that extinguished itself due to the rain, fog and mist in the area."

United Airlines Customers Outraged After Being Put Up in Military Barracks

by ELISHA FIELDSTADT

United Airlines passengers expressed frustration on social media Saturday after their flight to London was diverted to Canada — and they were put up in army barracks for more than 20 hours.

According to outraged passengers, their flight from Chicago to London was diverted to Goose Bay, in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were put up overnight at a military base, while the flight staff stayed in hotels and was nowhere to be found.

@united #958 Stuck in Goose Bay. No United employees visible. What's the latest update on departure to London?

— Kristen Powell (@KPowellEPS) June 13, 2015

"Once we landed there was nobody at all from United Airlines to be seen anywhere," passenger Lisa Wan told NBC News once she landed in London, 48 hours after her trip began. "No United representative ever reached out to anybody — no phone calls, no human beings, nothing. Nobody had any idea what was going on," she said.

US train carrying toxic chemicals derails and catches fire causing mass evacuation

A train carrying toxic chemicals has derailed and caught fire causing thousands of people to be evacuated.

More 5,000 people have been forced to leave their homes after a train with 'highly flammable and toxic gas' derailed and caught fire near Knoxville, Tennessee.
Seven police officers were taken to hospital after breathing in fumes from the blaze, while fire-fighters in gas masks have been going from door to door to evacuate residents.

As many as three cars derailed, Blount County Sheriff's spokeswoman Marian O'Briant said.
Local fire authorities ordered a one-mile evacuation, and Hazmat crews responded to the scene.

Shoreham airshow crash: 11 feared dead

August 23, 2015

"Eleven people are now feared to have died in the Shoreham airshow crash, police have said. Assistant Chief Constable Steve Barry of Sussex police said there were 11 people they were treating as “highly likely” to have died, but they could not yet formally identify any of the dead. However, two local footballers and a personal trainer have been named as probable victims.

Barry also warned that the death toll could rise further still, and that the removal of the bodies would continue on Sunday and possibly into Monday. A crane will be brought in to lift the wreckage of the aircraft tomorrow, when police fear more bodies may be discovered.

“This has been an enormously traumatic incident and our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected, from those who have suffered bereavement, to those in the local community, who are deeply shocked,” Barry said. Investigators were keeping “an open mind” about who had been involved in the crash as they continued to receive calls from concerned friends and relatives.

Barry said: “The scene itself is incredibly large. A lot of specially trained officers are sifting, as we speak, so we do need to keep an open mind, but from what we have seen at this stage it is possible that we will find more fatalities.”

FAA: Widespread ground stop for American Airlines flights

Sept 17, 2015

"The Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday American Airlines flights experienced nationwide ground stops amid computer issues.

The airline took to Twitter to respond to customers on the matter.

The FAA database said only that the cause of the ground stop was "airline issues." The database indicated the stoppage would last until at least 2:30 p.m. ET.

The airline told NBC affiliate WMAQ that it was working on resolving the issue but that it was it did not know how long it would take to resolve it.

A company spokesman later told Reuters that all domestic flights departing from Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare and Miami had been halted."

Here's an article about the Russian plane crash in Egypt. My heart goes out to all of those who have experienced a loss in this tragedy.

------

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2015/10/31/russian-plane-crash-egypt/74934010/

All 224 people aboard a Russian airliner were killed early Saturday when the Airbus A-321 crashed in Egypt's Sinai peninsula shortly after takeoff from a popular Red Sea resort town, officials say.

The Metrojet flight, carrying 217 passengers and seven crew members, was en route from Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt to St. Petersburg when it dropped off radar screens 23 minutes into the flight.

<snip>

Search and rescue teams found bodies as far away as three miles from the crash site, Reuters adds. At least 150 bodies were pulled from the wreckage itself. Large parts of the fuselage burned in the crash.

-----

How does that happen? How are there bodies 3 miles away from the crash site? Was the plane split in two before it hit the ground? Or maybe it touched down on one place before bouncing or whatever three miles away? That bit just stood out for me while reading the article.

Edited to respond a bit to my own question. I found the following info in another article. So, maybe the fuselage was burned enough before it hit the ground to cause parts of it and passengers to be scattered about in a three mile radius? I mean would that happen if the whole plane impacted the ground? Would it scatter over that distance? My brain is just trying to work this out.

https://www.rt.com/news/320225-plane-crash-russian-egypt/

According to Egypt's security forces, as cited by Reuters, a technical fault was to blame for the crash.

Search and rescue teams are finding bodies in a radius of up to 5km (3.1 miles) from the crash site. Approximately 150, some burnt, have been pulled out of the wreckage so far.

The sources say the aircraft took almost a vertical trajectory as it plummeted down. Large parts of the fuselage burned in the process.
