hcvslayer 2,226 Report post Posted February 28, 2017 all these dams, reservoirs, levees , canals, water pipelines etc. need to be tested for radiation...fly the "sniffer" plane over calif...check for radioactive tracers used in the water to look for leaks. "Studies have shown that large dams have an average lifespan of 22 years which means that many of those constructed in the ‘70s are today nearing the end of their useful life. " "The use of artificial tracers, such as Iodine-131 and Gold-198, are particularly helpful in understanding leakage problems. Without tracing techniques, it is very difficult to be sure exactly how water is really flowing. breezy 39,212 Report post Posted March 1, 2017 Julie Bishop to recall Australia’s diplomats for foreign affairs talks March 1, 2017 "FOREIGN Affairs Minister Julie Bishop will take the unprecedented step of recalling more than 100 of Australia’s senior diplomats in a bid to shape the Turnbull government’s foreign policy. A total of 113 ambassadors, high commissioners and consuls-general will return for three days next month in an Australian first, according to Fairfax Media. It’s estimated the meeting will cost almost $1.2 million, mostly in international flights and accommodation. The two-day meeting with the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Trade Minister Steve Ciobo and a representative from the opposition will be held in Canberra. “At a time of significant global uncertainty, it is vital that Australia harness the experience and intellect of our most senior diplomats,” Ms Bishop said. “This meeting will be important in strengthening Australia’s influence and standing in the world.” Such meetings have become an established fixture on the calendar in other nations but Australia has traditionally flown staff to regional meeting points. Last year the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade copped criticism for flying nearly two dozen senior Canberra staff to Paris for a three-day regional conference, which partly looked at savings measures. Ms Bishop said the decision to recall the diplomats was “very efficient”. “There is no new money required and I believe it’s a very efficient and effective way of hearing from them on their experiences, observations, their real-time experiences,” she told reporters in Canberra this morning." snip http://www.news.com.au/national/politics/julie-bishop-to-recall-australias-diplomats-for-foreign-affairs-talks/news-story/5f7287e913fc9ee6aff7f80b25adfadf

breezy 39,212 Report post Posted March 23, 2017 California may face 'significant risk' from dam March 22, 2017 snip video "Crews working to repair a crippled spillway on the Lake Oroville dam will be racing the clock to have the spillway in good enough shape by next fall, according to the report prepared by an independent team of consultants and submitted to federal officials last week. The crews hope to prevent a repeat, or worse, of dramatic events that led to nearly 200,000 people being evacuated last month. Repair contracts will have to be awarded by June and workers will have to have the spillway in solid enough shape by Nov. 1, the experts warned. "This is a very demanding schedule, as everyone recognizes. There seems to be no room anywhere to expand any part of the schedule," the five-member expert team said in the report for state and federal water and dam-safety officials. "A very significant risk would be incurred if the Gated Spillway is not operational by November 1." The report does not specify what that means. However, officials with the state Department of Water Resources, which operates Lake Oroville — the site of the nation's tallest dam and California's second-largest lake — fear a huge rupture that opened in the main spillway could expand to cripple the flood gates that send out controlled releases of water and keep water from spilling over uncontrollably." snip http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/03/22/california-may-face-significant-risk-from-dam.html

breezy 39,212 Report post Posted March 26, 2017 Google Army To Flag ‘Conspiracy Theory’ Websites In Fight Against Alt. Media March 17th updated March 25, 2017 IWB Sean Adl Tabatabai "Google has hired a 10,000 strong social justice army to flag sites from their search results that they deem “conspiracy”, “offensive”, or “fake news.” In a move to completely eradicate all traces of independent journalism and alternative media websites from the web, Google has begun the process of compiling a list of all offending sites so that they can “de-rank” them from their search results. The search engine giant is hoping to address complaints from left-wing media organisations that they allowed so-called ‘fake news’ to dominate the search results and thus influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. According to Google’s senior engineer, Paul Haahr, an army of quality raters will be tasked with ensuring that websites peddling conspiracy theories or generally offensive content, are put onto a blacklist so that Google can begin removing them from the web. "We’re explicitly avoiding the term ‘fake news,’ because we think it is too vague,” said Paul Haahr. “Demonstrably inaccurate information, however, we want to target.“ From SearchEngineLand: The effort revolves around Google’s quality raters, over 10,000 contractors that Google uses worldwide to evaluate search results. These raters are given actual searches to conduct, drawn from real searches that Google sees. They then rate pages that appear in the top results as to how good those seem as answers. …Quality raters use a set of guidelines that are nearly 200 pages long, instructing them on how to assess website quality and whether the results they review meet the needs of those who might search for particular queries. Those guidelines have been updated with an entirely new section about “Upsetting-Offensive” content that covers a new flag that’s been added for raters to use. Until now, pages could not be flagged by raters with this designation. The guidelines say that upsetting or offensive content typically includes the following things (the bullet points below are quoted directly from the guide): snip http://investmentwatchblog.com/google-army-to-flag-conspiracy-theory-websites-in-fight-against-alt-media/ Looks like it is not just google WARNING Strong Language in the following video, don't watch if you get offended by it. It comes as the BOM downgraded the intensity of the cyclone to a Category 3, just hours after it smashed through a number of communities in Queensland. The eye of the storm impacted near the resort town of Airlie Beach at approximately 12:15pm, as the storm continued to batter communities along the Queensland coast, blowing destructive and damaging winds of up to 230 km/h. It is predicted to move slowly southwest over the next 12 to 18 hours before curving to a more southerly track over inland Queensland. Experts predict a lashing of 500mm of rainfall, sparking fears of flash flooding. Snip Battered and broken, a cockatoo stands amongst the destruction in Airlie during Cyclone Debbie.
