Royal Navy Frigate to Be Refitted With Latest Missile System

The Royal Navy Type 23 frigate HMS Richmond today begins an extensive £20M refit at Devonport dockyard, which includes installing the £4M Seawolf missile system.

The Seawolf short range ship defence missile system is a £300M upgrade programme being rolled out across the fleet of Type 23 frigates and is designed to combat the increasing threat of faster, lower flying and more maneuverable missiles. This system can track a target the size of a cricket ball at twice the speed of sound from over 20 miles away and launch two missiles to destroy it.

The MOD signed the contract for the refit in September with Babcock and the work will be carried out at their Devonport facility. The work is expected to last until next spring, with the ship due to return to the Fleet in the summer following sea trials.

In addition to routine maintenance work, the refit contract includes a number of upgrades to better equip the vessel for her worldwide roles. These include installation of a new £800K command system that will be more cost effective to maintain and is compatible with other new ships entering service.

A new ‘brain’ of the ship’s weapons systems and upgraded communications systems are also being installed across the Type 23 Frigate Force to enhance operational capability and interoperability for the future.

China backs Pak bid for non-permanent UNSC seat, India upset

BEIJING: India’s hopes of obtaining Chinese backing for a seat in the United Nations Security Council came up against a rock with the Chinese foreign ministry saying on Wednesday that it was seriously considering Pakistan’s case for the coveted place.

China attaches great importance to Pakistan’s request for a seat on the UN Security Council, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said. She said Beijing is in favour of Pakistan playing a bigger role in maintaining international peace and security. China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners, Jiang noted at a news briefing.

Beijing welcomed India’s election as a non-permanent member of UNSC last year but it has not revealed its mind about supporting New Delhi’s case for a permanent member. China is the only one of the five permanent members of UNSC that has not announced its decision to support India.

New Delhi has been hoping to bring it around but the latest statement giving credence to Pakistan’s case may prove to be a serious hurdle.

The statement comes in the midst of rising differences between the United States and Pakistan, which rose after top US military leaders said Islamabad cannot be relied upon as a partner in the fight against terrorism. Beijing is trying to assure Pakistan of its continued support at a time when western nations are losing faith in it.

Pakistan became the latest country to announce its aspirations for the UNSC seat when it raised the demand during the 66th UN General Assembly session in September. At that time, many observers suspected Beijing may have encouraged Pakistan to make the claim. The latest statement seems to support this view.

The official news agency, Xinhua, noted that Pakistan’s foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar recently said that UN Security Council reforms “must be worked in a manner that will reinforce the confidence of the peoples of the world in this body and enhance its credibility and effectiveness.”

Argentina is also flirting, a little too much for the liking of the west, with  Iran. Already being a strong trade partner (foodstuffs), the new lady of Argentina is looking to extend the bilateral ties

Kallinigrad has become militarily active with a counter US missile shield system and the deployment of Iskander (Alexander) missile systems, battalions of troops, marine and submarine inclusions, as well as activating radars of many installations including ones connected to the Russian nuclear deterrent.

The carrier Kuznetzov with one other escort is due to arrive in the Eastern med via the western European route, to randevouz with the rest of the carrier group coming down the straights of Marmara, on the 10th of this month

oh and more....

much more.....,

Go Argentina!! I have a few friends that are connected living in the area and they got all excited a few weeks ago but I never did hear the details. This looks related and now I think there is something even bigger happening there. I must try and get back in touch over there and see if I can learn more.

The Russian military has said it plans to use Mistral ships in its Northern and Pacific fleets.

Many Russian military and industry experts have questioned the financial and military sense of the purchase, and some believe that Russia simply wants to gain access to advanced naval technology that could be used in the future in potential conflicts with NATO and its allies.

Australian psychic medium sees no acts of agression in build up between china, Russia and USA but feels the military prescence is a show of strength to get leaders back to the table - I hope she's right.  Also included her stuff on Economy and Eurozone crisis.

Psychic Prediction 2012 – Battle Over Arctic Resources

Psychic Predictions by Vine Psychic

6th December 2011

The vision I'm being shown is disturbing, because I'm seeing a vision of battle ships protecting territorial waters and land.

There are two flags being shown by Spirit - China and Russia, although there are other silent partners behind the scenes. I'm guided this vision is about claiming energy resources in the Arctic.

Large grey military freighters are in icy waters, sent by different political world leaders and I'm shown the United States government is fuming about secret meetings taking place between two world powers.

The ships are meant to be a powerful signal to the people of the world that military might will force world leaders back to the bargaining table. I do not see any acts of aggression in my vision, so that gives me a sense of relief.

The man who instigated this power play has strong energy corporations behind him and has shown his cards for all to see. I'm guided this show of force is to intimidate other world leaders. I see the people of the globe standing up together to demand greater environmental protections.

Spiritually worrying times about the protection of natural resources in the Arctic and allowing the environment to be lost forever for the sake of power and greed.

2012 Psychic Prediction – World Economies

Psychic Predictions by Vine Psychic

22nd November 2011

What's it going to take to get world leaders, the financial sector and economists to understand the crucial times we are now living in? Spiritually a lot I'm being guided. The denial veil is about to be lifted as the intense changing environmental challenges are upon us in 2012.

I am being shown that our world is speeding up faster than anyone originally anticipated and therefore taking people by surprise. The economic issues are relevant to the changing times we're entering, but we have failed to prepare for the environmental impacts that are about to strike us.

Spiritually we simply cannot keep rebuilding infrastructure that isn't going to last the distance and this is where I'm guided that world leaders will acknowledge their budgets will not be able to support grants, or research and development in the future.

The world economies are about to experience a flat line in 2012 and spiritually we now have to prepare for what this will mean to us as a global society?

For some people this will be a challenging time, for others it will allow the technologies and eco friendly lifestyles that have been laying dormant to rise and have there day in the spotlight.

Fears of the unknown have to be wiped aside, as we're now entering new territory...

Germany and France – Tug of War with the Eurozone

Psychic Predictions by Vine Psychic

26th October 2011

Since I released my earlier psychic prediction about the Euro becoming extremely volatile. I've had other visions shown to me about how bizarre this is going to get.

Spiritually I saw a precognitive vision of German Chancellor Angela Merkel on one end of a rope and French President Nicholas Sarkozy was on the other. A right royal tug-of-war was going on and I was symbolically seeing the tugging was representing a political power game being played out by the master players controlling the Euro.

The only thing was, nobody was winning.

Now, this leads me to the vision I was shown today and depending on whether you are spending big money on the stock exchange and are hoping for some type of good news about the European economic situation, I'm uncertain you want to know who is going to let go of the rope first?

I'm being shown Germany letting go first because it seems there is a sense of frustration with this no-win situation.

I have a lot of financial clients contacting me from around the world, asking me should they pull out their money and place it in bonds? Each person's circumstances are unique; therefore one answer doesn't fit all. But the world economies are unlikely to find any harmony this year.

TEHRAN Dec 12 (Reuters) - A member of the Iranian parliament's National Security Committee said on Monday that the military was set to practise its ability to close the Gulf to shipping at the narrow Strait of Hormuz, the most important oil transit channel in the world,

Iran also export/supply a large chunk of electricity to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan.

Now what would happen if they flicked the switch off as well as blocking the straights of Hormuz... seems to me they have a good hand of cards.... ;)

Then there's this...

False Rumor That Strait of Hormuz Was Closed Sends Oil Prices Skyrocketing

<snip>

A report out of real-time analysts Ransquawk then claimed that the channel had in fact already been closed, a rumor that sent traders scrambling.

“By 10:40 a.m. EDT oil had jumped from $98.590 before the rumor, to $101.25 at its peak, and has settled to $100.30 — still sitting almost $2 higher than before the supposition began,” reports Business Insider.

The dramatic surge in oil prices seems to have been triggered by confusion that Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz, not that it was merely preparing to practice such an eventuality in the form of a military exercise.

At time of press, prices have settled to around $99 dollars a barrel.

Other reports confirm that the Strait was not closed at any point. Iran’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the Strait is open, reports Bloomberg. In addition, Ransquawk now reports that the U.S. fifth fleet has confirmed maritime traffic in the Strait is normal.

SKorean, Aussie Defense Ministers Strike Agreement

The South Korean and Australian defense ministers signed an agreement Wednesday to deepen military cooperation between the two countries through increased joint exercises.

The move comes after the United States announced last month that it will increase its military presence in Australia and conduct more joint exercises across the northern Australian Outback as it counters a growing China, as well as the threat posed by North Korea to security in the Asia-Pacific region.

South Korean Defense Minister Gen. Kim Kwan-jin and his Australian counterpart, Stephen Smith, agreed during Wednesday's inaugural bilateral meeting to stage a regular new naval exercise starting next year.

Iran successfully fires missile

http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/middle-east/6208755/Iran-successfully-fires-missile

Iran says it has successfully test fired a long-range missile during its naval exercise in the Gulf, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"We have test fired a long-range shore-to-sea missile called Qader (capable), which managed to successfully destroy predetermined targets in the Gulf," the agency quoted deputy navy Commander Mahmoud Mousavi as saying.

The move follows Iran's threat to halt oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
