Lava flow enters Puna Geothermal Venture power plant on Hawaii's Big Island as authorities attempt to kill active wells

A small lava flow from fissure No. 22 has entered the grounds of Puna Geothermal Venture, a geothermal power plant located in the east rift zone of the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii's Big Island.

Janet Snyder, a spokeswoman for Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim, told the Hawaii Tribune-Herald that the flow is moving "in the opposite direction from the flows that are entering the ocean."

The flow, which entered the PGV property, was heading toward the well pad located at the site, but stalled between 200 and 300 meters from the plant itself, Synder added.

Authorities have been trying to mitigate the risk of a potential well-head blowout should lava hit the wells. Last week, the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency initiated operations to kill three active wells by pumping cold water into them.

Leilani Estates family ‘heartbroken’ as huge crack swallows up their home

Noah Friend returned Monday to his home in Leilani Estates to find a 10-foot wide crack running 500 feet long through his backyard and beneath his house.

The 32-year-old Leilani Estates resident inherited the house he built with his father in 1990 when he started a family of his own, said fiance Shantel Pacarro, 31, who moved to the property 13 years ago after she became pregnant with their first child.

The couple had envisioned eventually passing their beloved home on to their children, 12-year-old daughter Naiah, and son Nainoa, 11.

Hawaii street swallowed by 'lava tide' as many more homes burn

Hawaii street swallowed by 'lava tide' as many more homes burn

"PAHOA, Hawaii (Reuters) - A tide of molten rock turned a Hawaii street into a volcanic wasteland on Friday as the number of homes destroyed by the erupting Kilauea volcano soared and authorities told residents to flee a surge of lava heading towards them.

The destructive fury of the erupting Kilauea volcano was unleashed on the Big Island's Leilani Estates housing development, with the number of homes and other structures destroyed leaping to 82 from a previous count of 50, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Some 2,200 acres (890 hectares) of land have been torched by lava since May 3, in what is likely to be the most destructive eruption of Kilauea in more than a century, according to the County of Hawaii.

"There were eight houses taken on this road in 12 hours," Ikaika Marzo said in a Facebook video as he stood on Kaupuli street and showed a black, glass-like lava field where his cousin's house previously stood."

A man named Ikaika Marzo has been filming ever since the start. Take a gander at this image of the geo-thermal plant they've been worried about.  Mind blowing!

Capturegeopad.JPG

Methinks they can forget about that plant and those wells, Mother Nature is fighting back.  Thanks to Ikaika for this image, for those without  Facebook.

Lava Speeds Up And Forces More Evacuations As Despair Grows

Leilani Estates residents risked swirling gas emissions and continued lava fountaining Wednesday to retrieve possessions from threatened homes, while eruption evacuees staying at the main shelter expressed despair with their ongoing plight.

Blustery winds that caused sulfur dioxide levels to shoot from nonexistent to dangerously high in minutes – as measured by on-site Hawaii National Guardsmen equipped with monitors – didn’t keep some evacuees from stopping briefly to watch Kilauea volcano spew lava where they once walked.

“We evacuated the first day. We didn’t think we’re ever coming back after that,” 12-year Leilani Estates homeowner Lori Wada said as she watched a distant fissure shoot molten rock.

The self-described life coach said that was just one day after she had returned from a trip to California to host a retreat about dealing with life challenges called “Facing the Fire.” She was back home Wednesday facing her own fire. Friends helped her fetch “important things” and document, through photographs, structural damage to her house.

USGS Elevates Mauna Loa Alert Status To Advisory

The largest active volcano on earth, Mauna Loa, has given the USGS reason to elevate the alert status from normal to advisory.

Activity Summary: Mauna Loa is not erupting. Seismicity rates have decreased significantly since the earthquake activity recorded in late-May, but they remain above previously established baselines. Global Positioning System (GPS) measurements continue to show ground surface deformations related to inflation of a magma reservoir beneath the summit and upper Southwest Rift Zone, with recently inferred inflation concentrated mainly in the southwestern part of this magma storage complex.

The Latest: 6 People Killed by Erupting Volcano in Guatemala

Authorities in Guatemala say six people have been killed and 20 injured by the eruption of a volcano southwest of the capital.

National Disaster Coordinator Sergio Cabanas says an undetermined number of people also are missing following Sunday's eruption of the Volcan del Fuego, which is 44 kilometers (27 miles) from Guatemala City.

Shocking satellite photos show entire towns obliterated after Guatemala's 'Volcano of Fire' buried them in tons of ash that crushed hundreds of homes and burned 300 people alive

  • Giant clouds of superheated smoke and ash burned people alive and buried entire towns in a deadly volcanic eruption in Guatemala that killed almost 100 people.

Shocking satellite photos of before and after Sunday's eruption show whole suburbs wiped off the map as hundreds of houses collapsed when tons of falling ash crushed them.

What was once a collection of green canyons, hillsides and farms was reduced to grey devastation by fast-moving avalanches of super-heated muck that roared into the tightly knit villages on the mountain's flanks.

Volcan de Fuego, meaning 'Volcano of Fire' spewed a 'curtain' of ash 20,000ft into the air and sent rapid pyroclastic flows through at least seven nearby towns in the biggest eruption for four decades.

A new supervolcano is brewing under Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire

June 25, 2018

"Something unexpected has been gradually making itself known to geologists in the United States. A huge mass of molten rock is creeping upwards beneath the nation’s north eastern states.

“The upwelling we detected is like a hot-air balloon, and we infer that something is rising up through the deeper part of our planet under New England,” says Rutgers University geophysicist Professor Vadim Levin.

Traces of the brooding mass only became evident through a large-scale new seismic study.

The idea that there may be a super volcano brewing under Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire is something of a surprise.

“Our study challenges the established notion of how the continents on which we live behave,” Professor Levin says. “It challenges the textbook concepts taught in introductory geology classes.”

The region is geologically stable. There are no active volcanoes.

So the massive magma build-up must be a relatively recent event."

Did the region have experience with that weird deep and loud burrowing thingy under there, which was reported to go across the US from East coast to West coast??(´゚д゚`)

If the location matches, then I think it's safe for us to think that the change was artificially created in order to release some of the energy off Hawaii in strategic manner....

If to look at it in a negative way, someone might be planning the simultaneous volcanic blow ups of Hawaii and other locations in the USA to create upheaval against the USA.....hope not.......:;(∩´﹏`∩);:(´×ω×`)

Volcano eruption leaves thousands stranded in Bali

Hundreds of people have been forced to flee their homes and 16,000 passengers have seen flights cancelled after a volcano erupted in Indonesia.

The eruption of Mount Agung on the island of Bali spewed ash 8,200ft into the air, grounding 276 flights in and out of Ngurah Rai airport.

People living in villages below have fled to evacuation centres.

"Micro tremors are still being detected... indicating that magma is moving towards the surface," Sutopo Purwo Nugroho of the disaster mitigation agency said.

He said 309 residents living in a danger area 2.5 miles from the crater had voluntarily gone to three evacuation centres on Friday.
