La Palma volcano ALERT: Magma is MOVING! Expert warns ‘significant’ distortion in Canaries

LA PALMA volcano’s red-hot magma has risen after its recent flurry of earthquakes causing the ground on the Canary Islands to “significantly” rise above ground level, experts said.

Volcano experts discovered the ground in the area surrounding local hotel Teneguia Princess hotel has risen by about 1cm to the south and 3.5cm upwards over the past year, according to GPS sensors regulating ground deformation.

The shocking results from the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan) come after the archipelago was rocked by two separate seismic swarms in the area surrounding the deadly Cumbre Vieja.

PRESSURE COOKER

Fears Tenerife’s Mount Teide volcano is about to ERUPT after more than 20 quakes rock the island in just four days

Aletha Adu   Nov. 3, 2017

"The earthquake tremors, which clustered around Vilaflor in southern Tenerife, indicate the volcano is now active

A SEISMIC swarm has rocked Tenerife - fuelling fears Mount Teide could erupt across the popular Brit holiday destination.

More than 20 quakes struck the island between October 28 and October 31, which indicates the volcano is now active, experts from Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan) claimed.

The earthquake tremors clustered around Vilaflor in southern Tenerife, at an average depth of 6-8 km below sea level.

Experts revealed the largest tremor registered 1.4 on the Richter Scale, striking the village at 11.05am local time on Tuesday morning.

In a bid to calm locals, experts from Involcan said on Facebook: "This swarm is similar to the other seismic swarms recorded in Tenerife in June and as always it is important to emphasise, it does not represent any kind of concern for the population."

The new caldera can be seen clearly on this image. Photo/Ágúst J. Magnússon

"A new caldera, measuring a diameter of one kilometres has been formed in this last week in Öræfajökull glacier, a caldera spotted via satellite images of the glacier.

Iceland's volcanoes may be ready to blow

According to the Iceland Met Office this caldera shows increased activity in Öræfajökull which is located in Vatnajökull, Iceland's largest glacier.

A great sulphuric stench has eminated from the river Kvíá last week.

Increased seismic activity has occured in the area in recent months, activity which has subsided in recent days. The volcano hasn't erupted since 1727. There are still no signs of an imminent eruption states an announcement from the Met Office. However, the safety code has been put up to yellow. "

There's an Absolutely Massive Lava Dome Lurking Underneath Japan

An ancient underwater volcano responsible for one of the largest known super-eruptions in history looks to be busy making silent, fiery preparations for its inevitable return.

The Kikai Caldera, located to the south of Japan's main islands, devastated a large swathe of the Japanese archipelago when it spewed upwards of 500 cubic kilometres (120 cubic miles) of magma during the Akahoya eruption some 7,000 years ago – and scientists have just confirmed evidence of new volcanic activity under the crater.

Researchers at Kobe University have detected a giant lava dome that exists below the Kikai Caldera, holding a volume of more than 32 cubic kilometres (almost 8 cubic miles) of trapped magma – a buildup that could reveal clues as to when Kikai's next super-eruption may be unleashed.

Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung volcano erupts, spewing ash cloud into the air and threatening flights

INDONESIA has raised flight warnings around the Mount Sinabung volcano on Sumatra island to their highest level after it sent a towering plume of ash more than seven kilometres into the air on Monday, its biggest eruption this year.

Areas around the crater of the volcano, located about 1900km northwest of the capital Jakarta, have been off-limits for several years because of frequent volcanic activity.

See how many volcanos are erupting right now

Feb. 24, 2018

Ring of fire envelopes South America, Far East

snip  image

"How many volcanoes would you guess are erupting right this minute?

Would you guess 5? Would you guess 10?

Try 25 – many of them in the Far East, but plenty in Central and South America around the so-called “ring of fire.”

Check out this map from VolcanoDiscovery.com of the 25 currently erupting volcanoes today.

And all this activity is sparking fears by seismological experts and ordinary people who live near hundreds of active and dormant volcanoes from California to Japan about the next possible big one."

5.0-magnitude earthquake rattles Hawaii's Big Island

Caleb Jones          May 3, 2018

54819a1f65da4cc1b5ae62951139e478.jpg

In this photo provided by the U.S. Geological Survey, red ash rises from the Puu Oo vent on Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano after a magnitude-5.0 earthquake struck the Big Island, Thursday, May 3, 2018 in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The temblor Thursday is the latest and largest in a series of hundreds of small earthquakes to shake the island's active volcano since the Puu Oo vent crater floor collapsed and caused magma to rush into new underground chambers on Monday. Scientists say a new eruption in the region is possible. (Kevan Kamibayashi/U.S. Geological Survey via AP)

"HONOLULU (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey reports a 5.0-magnitude earthquake has struck Hawaii's Big Island.

The temblor Thursday is the latest and largest in a series of hundreds of small earthquakes to shake the island's active volcano, Kilauea, since the Puu Oo (POO'-oo OH'-oh) vent crater floor collapsed and caused magma to rush into new underground chambers. Scientists say a new eruption in the region is possible.

The quake was centered about 4.3-miles (6.9 kilometers) deep on the south flank of Kilauea. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says the earthquake was not strong enough to trigger a tsunami.

Earthquakes in the region have been happening consistently since the Puu Oo crater collapsed on Monday.

"It appears that ground shaking from the earthquake caused rockfalls in the Puu Oo crater on Kilauea Volcano's East Rift Zone, which resulted in a short-lived plume of reddish ash rising above the cone," said Tina Neal, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory's chief scientist in a statement.

Hawaii County officials reported Wednesday that a road in the Big Island's Puna District was closed after it was damaged by earlier quakes."

Something strange is happening on Hawaii with the volcanic eruption

Apparently, there are locals saying that somehow massive amount of lava went missing. Wth!?

I'm trying to figure out where it's been mentioned. Obscure so far.

But found matching images I came across but no assurance they are the real pics. The source maybe bogus and someone I knew of picked up that bogus info is a possibility. But anyway, just in case it still stands as a real story, basically the missing lava has been moving into a new pool, and a new location to blow up....ummmmm.

Massive 6.9-magnitude quake rocks Big Island as eruption continues

PUNA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Just an hour after a large tremor Friday morning, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake shook the Big Island on Friday afternoon, sending people fleeing from buildings and community centers and increasing concerns about new eruptions in Puna's Leilani Estates.

The temblor was the largest in Hawaii since 1975, and did generate small tsunami waves around the Big Island, triggering sea fluctuations that ranged from 8 inches in Hilo to 16 inches at Kapoho, Hawaii County Civil Defense said.

An eighth fissure has opened, sure wish all of them well, but this has to be truly scary.  No defense against something like this.  Many videos at this link.

‘A very fast-moving situation’: Lava burns more homes in Hawaii neighborhood as new fissures form

May 6, 2018         Amy B. Wang

snip video

"Less than a week ago, Leilani Estates was the picture of serenity on Hawaii’s Big Island, a subdivision in the island’s eastern Puna district filled with wooden homes nestled in tropical plant-filled lots.

The latest eruption of the island’s most active volcano changed everything.

Shortly after Kilauea erupted Thursday, the ground split open on the east side of Leilani Estates, exposing an angry red beneath the lush landscape. From the widening gash, molten rock burbled and splashed, then shot as high as 80 to 100 feet in the air.

The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency called it “active volcanic fountaining.” Some residents insisted it was Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess, come to reclaim her land. Residents there were ordered to flee amid threats of fires and “extremely high levels of dangerous” sulfur dioxide gas.

Soon, another such fissure had formed less than three streets to the west. Then another, and another. From the vents, hot steam — and noxious gases — rose, before magma broke through and splattered into the air.

As of Sunday night, at least 10 such fissure vents were reported in the neighborhood — including two that had opened anew late Saturday night — and at least 26 homes had been destroyed, according to the county civil defense agency."

Lots of pics and vids.

In this article, one woman states that they knew they ere building over a live volcano, but life on Maui had gotten too expensive.  I was wondering why anyone would have built in that spot.  Sorry, but no thank you.  At least they had a warning and the ability to get out safely, with their lives.  Wishing them well.

Hawaii's Kilauea volcano could see explosive eruptions: U.S. agency

There is a growing chance of explosive eruptions of Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano in coming weeks that could shoot rocks for miles and cause ashfall for dozens of miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said on Wednesday.

FEARS OF TSUNAMI FOR U.S. WEST COAST AS ERUPTING HAWAII VOLCANO FRACTURES MASSIVE UNSTABLE LANDMASS

Scientists from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) have contacted me regarding a staggering development taking place right now during the eruption of the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii:  An area of land on the south flank of the volcano known as the "Hilina Slump" - about the size of Manhattan - is moving and could BREAK OFF into the ocean, sending a Tsunami toward the west coast with 100+ foot waves moving at 500 miles per hour.  Cities like San Diego, Los Angeles and others could be wiped off the face of the earth.

They say the bosses at USGS know about this and are intentionally concealing it from the public for fear of causing a panic.  Media outlets in Hawaii and in Los Angeles have allegedly been specifically told not to say anything . . . yet . . .  for the same reason.

I am breaking this story.

As most of the civilized world knows by now, the Kilauea volcano on the south side of Hawaii's big island, began erupting earlier this week.

Prior to the appearance of lava at the surface, hundreds of small earthquakes were felt.  Then the quakes got bigger.  A magnitude 5.6 struck Thursday evening and a strong Magnitude 6.9 was a sort of announcement by the volcano that it was time to blast off.   This map from the USGS web site, shows the location of the Magnitude 6.9 quake and the rings indicate how far away the quake was felt:

Cracks in Hawaii volcano roar amid warnings of more

New fissures roaring like jet engines and spewing magma have opened on Hawaii's Kilauea volcano, piling lava as high as a four-story building as the U.S. Geological Survey warned that more outbreaks were likely.

A crack in pasture land on Kilauea's east flank was the 16th recorded since the U.S. volcano, one of the world's most active, erupted eight days ago. Thousands of people have fled their homes on Big Island and dozens of homes have been destroyed.

The new fissure opened up on Saturday about a mile (1.6 km) east of the existing vent system that has devastated the island's Leilani Estates neighborhood, close to several homes on the edge of the field.

"It's right by my house, which is kind of scary," said Haley Clinton, 17, who walked to see the new crack with her father, Darryl, and sister Jolon, 15. "It's really cool."

From afar, the fissure gave off dull, thumping roars that sharpened on approach to a scream from venting steam and gas, mixed with the slapping sounds of liquid lava.

New fissure #18 sends lava 100s of feet into the air - "Getting Stronger!"

Nobody is talking about this - 'Hilina Slump" - Could cause Mega-Tsunami if it goes!

Reddwolf made a post above regarding the Hilina Slump.  Now an 18th fissure has opened, and it appears to be a big one.  5,000 CUBIC MILES of slip, possible.  Think we may need floaties if that baby goes.
