Major anti-Orban demo in Hungary

April 14, 2018   Peter Murphy

"Budapest (Hungary) (AFP) - Tens of thousands of Hungarians thronged Budapest on Saturday in anger at strongman Prime Minister Viktor Orban's crushing re-election victory.

The crowd, around 100,000 strong according to organisers and AFP reporters, marched through the city centre in sunshine to parliament for a rally under the motto "We are the majority".

"We want to live in a state of law, where checks and balances are present.. We want to live in a real democracy," said protest organiser Viktor Gyetvai, 20, a student.

"If the demands are not met then we cannot live in this country, this is our last chance to do something for this country," he told AFP."

Japan Protesters Call for ‘Liar’ Abe to Resign Over Scandal

April 14, 2018    Andy Sharp

"Prime minister has denied involvement in controversies
Tens of thousands of people joined a demonstration outside Japan’s parliament Saturday, in a sign of growing public anger over cronyism scandals engulfing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Organizers say about 50,000 people attended this weekend’s rally in Tokyo -- the biggest in nearly three years. Protesters, many young, held up signs calling Abe a “liar” and seeking his resignation.

The prime minister has been forced in parliament to deny his involvement in two controversies over land deals to close associates. An alleged cover-up over the activity of Japanese troops during the Iraq war is also casting a cloud over his government. A spokesman for Abe’s office didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

The scandals have pushed Abe’s approval ratings toward all-time lows, raising questions about his ability to win the ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s leadership election in September. Victory would put him on track to become Japan’s longest-serving prime minister."

@unity  I'd be interested to hear what you have to say.  I recall some kerfluffle about Abe wanting to have a bigger military, but not anything else, and thought the people were behind him on that score. Was I wrong?  Notice one thing in both these articles, the word "young" describing the protesters.

Putin warns of 'chaos' in international order if Syria gets attacked again

April 15, 2018

Vladimir Putin, in a phone call to his Iranian counterpart, warned that the world will see 'chaos' if Syria is attacked again.

snip video

"Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on Sunday that further Western attacks on Syria would bring chaos to world affairs, as Washington prepared to increase pressure on Russia with new economic sanctions.

In a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani, Putin and Rouhani agreed that the Western strikes had damaged the chances of achieving a political resolution in the seven-year Syria conflict, according to a Kremlin statement.

"Vladimir Putin, in particular, stressed that if such actions committed in violation of the U.N. Charter continue, then it will inevitably lead to chaos in international relations," the Kremlin statement said.

The United States, France and Britain have said the missile strikes were limited to Syria's chemical weapons capabilities."

It seems to me that the chemical attacks, both last year and this year have no basis, in fact, and are totally unproven.  Let's remember also that our attacks have mainly been against ISIS, and Hezbollah, which means we are helping Assad, not working against him.

I'm gonna say it again----"All the world's a stage."

Gunfire Heard At Saudi Royal Palace In Riyadh As Rumors Of Attempted Coup Mount

April 21, 2018            Tyler Rogoway

"Details remain very sketchy but there is elevating talk that a coup attempt has been made against King Salman of Saudi Arabia. Heavy gunfire was heard around the sprawling royal palace complex overnight in the Kingdom, and various reports state that the King had been moved to a safe bunker complex at an air base nearby. Other sources say it may be a terror attack or an assault by Houthi forces that infiltrated the country, or even the result of a small drone overflying a palace checkpoint. So at this point, we really don't have a definitive answer as to what is going on.

It's not as if the crown doesn't have its enemies among major Saudi military and business power players. After arresting, holding captive, and stripping funds and powerful positions from some of the country's most elite royals, and pushing through reforms and a foreign policy agenda that would have been considered radical a year ago, there is no doubt that the sitting royal family is a major target.

King Salman's son, Mohammad Bin Salman, who is widely viewed as the primary force behind moderate reforms made under his father's reign, and will likely be the named king in the near future, is probably the biggest target for those in the Royal apparatus that diverge from his vision for the country."

There were rumors early today, but everyone was claiming hoax, so it wasn't posted.  However that video and others I watched, sure sounded like gunfire to me.   Q has indicated that something supposed to come out of SA soon, special info, so do I think there could have been an attempt to stop it? Yes I do.

US has lost 'mediator role' in Middle East: Erdogan

May 14, 2018     AFP

"London (AFP) - The US has lost its role as mediator in the Middle East by moving its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in London on Monday.

"With its latest step, America has chosen to be a part of the problem, not a solution, and lost its mediator role in the Middle East peace process," Erdogan told the Chatham House international affairs think-tank.

Moving the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was "very, very unfortunate", he said, warning it would "increase tensions and ignite an even greater fire between communities".

His remarks came as violent clashes erupted along Gaza's border ahead of the controversial embassy opening, leaving dozens of Palestinians dead and hundreds wounded in the conflict's bloodiest day in years."
